Played through the original game this weekend and noticed a couple things worth mentioning in the article.
The first is concerning the difficulty levels. If you beat the game on the lowest difficulty setting, then you don't get to fight the very last form of the final boss and get a bad ending. Also, the I think the difficulty levels were renamed between the American and European versions. After I beat the game I was browsing through some Let's Plays and I noticed the lowest difficulty setting in the video was easy, with the same live and continue amounts as the child difficulty.
The second thing is haw the games have a ridiculously in-depth story that's featured only in the manuals, at least for the first game. I managed to get a complete copy of the game and I was surprised that they it had three pages detailing the backstory of the game, plus a few more for character bios.
Oh, also the new sequel should be mentioned in the article, but that's probably obvious by now.

Yeah, I've looked over this one recently and it's a bit on the thin side. I'll probably go back and add to it once the new one comes out.

www.hardcoregaming101.net/sparkster/sparkster.htmUpdated this article, including: -Slightly expanded reviews of all three of the 16-bit games, especially the original RKA, to flesh out what made them so special -Review of the new Rocket Knight game -Pictures of some of Sparkster's cameos in other Konami games

I fully agree with your review of Rocket Knight, Kurt. I even think you went a little too easy on it. It's just not as fun as the original games and lacks the charm and variety that made the first three so enjoyable to play. Having to unlock Hard mode is also a pain because playing through Normal is a bore.

If you wanna add more in the cameo section, you can mention that Sparkster is a playable character in Krazy Kart Racing for the iPhone

I was reading through this one today, and I was surprised that the article doesn't mention what I'd say is one of Sparkster's most significant cameos. In Mitsumete Knight (think fantasy Tokimeki Memorial with RPG battles; it'd be a cool game to cover itself), you get to meet him and talk to him (and Rocket Knight music plays in the background), he has two full, animated portraits and voice acting, you get the option to battle him, and if you win, you get the title "Rocket Knight", learn his "Rocket Attack", and other stuff. Skip to the one minute mark in this video to see:
While I'm at it, I suppose it'd be helpful to point out some errors I caught. The logo image for the modern Rocket Knight game is broken, and there's a lack of consistency in how the title info is presented for each section (where the year is placed). And the whole write-up for the modern Rocket Knight could use a proofread and clean up. I noticed quite a few typos and other mistakes in that.

No, I don't think so, unfortunately. Although if anybody wants to fumble through the game in Japanese, the same guy who uploaded that video has some other Mitsumete Knight videos in which he subtitled the text. He's got a full run through the game subtitled for one of the girls.

I'm still partial to his Cameo in Jikkyou Power Pro Wrestling '96 : MAX VOLTAGE, where he shows up as a human, and is basically Hulk Hogan with a pair of blue goggles on his head.

I bought Mitsumete Knight awhile back, when I was focusing on doing a book on Konami. I was under the impression that it was their answer to Sakura Taisen. Never played it, though. This might give me some motivation, but I already suffered enough with the Tokimeki Memorials to unlock some of those shooter minigames.

Yeah, it has a lot in common with Sakura Taisen too. Konami and Red worked together on Mitsumete Knight, and it shares some staff with the Sakura Taisen games. It was built off of Tokimeki Memorial: Forever with You's engine, though.

Is Mitsumete Knight using the same combat engine as Suikoden? It looks damn near identical.
Also I think "Sierra's Sparkster Page" is dead/404'ing.

Mitsumete Knight has war battles too, as seen at the two minute mark in this video: But I'm not very experienced with Suikoden myself, so I can't say how similar they are. For that matter, I haven't played Mitsumete Knight a ton either. And, yeah, that link is dead for me too.
