www.hardcoregaming101.net/jackiechan/jackie.htmDid you know Jackie Chan starred in this many games? I sure didn't. The text could use a bit of editing, but I put it up here for the moment. I think I might do a separate Kung Fu Master article in the future to complement this one.

Oh my.... Project A on MSX... I haven't seen that title screen in 22 years.

Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu, IMHO, is actually an underrated game. I feel like it's often overlooked because it's a licensed game, but the game itself is solid.

I still need to pick up Action Kung Fu for NES. I used to have Jackie Chan Adventures GBA and was disappointed with it. I agree with the article on Jackie Chan GBA, but I would like to add that I felt some of the dialog captures the cartoon's spirit (not all of it, though). I can't believe some reviews gave that game an 8 and overlooked the flaws. Pressing L and R at the same time just to pick things up was especially annoying.

I bought the Wheels on Meals DVD years ago after learning it was the movie that inspired Kung-Fu Master and I was disappointed that it had nothing to do with the game other than having two characters named Thomas and Sylvia. I don't even think Sylvia was actually Thomas' love interest in the movie. I guessing you could pretend that the pagoda in the game is a stand-in for the Spanish castle in the movie and that the final boss Mr. X is actually Benny Urquidez's character from the film (who actually a henchman in the movie), but still...

Great article!
The reason why those early MSX games look so bad is because they came out in cassette tapes instead of cartridges.
On rom sites, you might find them on disks, but that's because hackers/pirates usually ported the games to disks to be able to copy them freely.

Sweet, I actually already knew a couple of these. It'll be cool to read indepth. I really like Action Kung-Fu and used to play Stunt Master at my cousin's house. I wonder how it holds up today...

You known you haven't followed MAME for long when you learn that the Jackie Chan arcade game is now emulated! From the article, it looks and is quite crazy-awesome.

Great article. Didn't knew about the 2 arcade games and FLASH Little Big Soldier. I need to try the arcade games out sometime.
Some remarks about the article:
- The confusing cover art for Protector (MSX) is from the European version of the game. The article doesn't make this clear. It's likely that the Japanese version uses different cover art.
- In page 4 "Columns" is misspelled as "Coloums".

Didn't know most of the MSX stuff and the flash game. And I too tried the Arcade games in MAME only back when they weren't running properly...
Btw., shouldn't Fatal Fury's Hon Fu be in the list of similar characters? And is there a source to back up Hitmonchan? When reading the name, I first thought of the Japanese name suffix -chan.

Hon Fu should definitely be added.
I would say, about Hitomanchan, that it is a proper assumption, since there's a Hitomonlee afaik.

This is a fantastic article - obsessive in its need to be comprehensive, and a great resource for obscure information and screenshots.
Anyone emailed Jackie's agent? I wonder what he'd make of it all.

I think that Hon Fu (Fatal Fury) and Cheng-Fu (Double Dragon for the Neo Geo) shoud be added. Specially the last one.

I'd actually love to give a few of these games a shot after reading this. Great write-up!
