In my defence, you have to admit I was pretty meticulous with the War of the Dead article, and properly crediting the MSX2 hardware.

Another thing worth mentioning about Predator for the NES: the branching paths can actually lead to earlier stages. Imagine being in stage 15 and taking the wrong door, ending up in stage 8. ugh.

One arcade Kusoge that might make an interesting project is "Ginga Ninkyoden" by Jaleco; the enemies and background characters are almost exclusively characters from other series (Gundam, Hokuto no Ken, Maison Ikkoku, Gekkou Kamen)...although they list the names of some of the production agencies in the High Score tables, there's no way in hell it's authorized or licensed.
Although Japanese copyright law is a lot different than the overly litigious crap we have (thanks, Sonny Bono, enjoy your spot in hell) I always wondered if it pissed off any of the companies involved. I haven't been able to find anything out talking about it on Japanese websites, so I wonder if anything out there. If there isn't much out there for background, it would make a fun little article for YWK.

ah yes i remember reading about that somewhere....
another title that would be good for the column would be "atlantis no nazo" it's pretty infamous because
1) you can't change direction while jumping a-la ghost & goblins so more often than not you end up falling into a pit
2) the levels are all disorganized, you can jump from level 1,to level 3,to level 7 and some level even send you back
3) most infamous of all,one of the level send you to a zone called "BLACK HOLE" which is just a pit where you fall and fall until you run out of lives, this one is so infamous it even appared in some anime

Plus, it's got a tie to the first featured game as well!

I just got a boxed copy of this the other day. It's one of those games like Tower of Druaga that I'd prefer to have its own article, since it's a somewhat popular-ish game amongst Famicom circles, though that wouldn't necessarily disclude it from a YWK article in this case since there's only one game. I remember trying to play it awhile back and being extremely perplexed.
The big question - is it better or worse than Super Pitfall, which it almost became a sequel to?

After a quick search on Google I found this nice article: www.gamespot.com/users/Panzer_Zwei/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=m-100-25573825For some reason the character design at the arcade flyer at the start of the articles reminds me Rumiko Takahashi a lot (and I'm certain 99% it was from her as a hardcore fan of RT). Was she rensponisble for the character design of the game as well? Kusoge or not, I'd like to see an article for this game at this site.

I'm not sure if you're taking recomendations, but one I can think that easily fits the definition of kusoge is is a game called Ganso Saiyuuki: Super Monkey Daibouken. I've seen it being played on a segment of a Japanese "game show" called Game Center CX. The game is apparently so confusing, the player/host had people call into the show to give him advice. He eventually did complete it. If you need some gameplay, here is some footage, but I warn you...it's very bad: www.youtube.com/watch?v=YW-M80xIxpg

I was wondering the same. Even the article closes with "stupid ideas don't have to result in stupid games!". Silly or not (it fits the cheesy dialogue even better than the original), Typing of the Dead is a perfectly fine, playable and challenging game. So is it considered "kusoge" just because of the silliness? How many more should be considered so for this reason, even if they are fine in every other department?
Count me among the people who don't understand the criteria for this column.

Well, according to Japanese criteria, excessive cheesiness can result in kusoge status. Metal Wolf Chaos and its cinemas might be another one like this. To quote the first page:
It's not necessarily "bad" games in that you don't want to play them. In some cases it could be bad games, or games with bad elements, which are so excessively bad - or bad in unique and interesting ways - that they attain a certain kind of warped charm.
Well, that's my understanding. Part of the reason (I think) we're using the Japanese word, is because you can have a certain degree of affection for these terrible games (or aspects of them). TotD could have been a competent typing tutor stripped of its themes, but it was made awesome by having a truly awful script/dialogue attached to it.
As long as it's encouraging debate, that's great. Surely the diversity of titles being covered (several of which are worth experiencing) is a good thing? It would be all too easy to fill out with unplayable NES titles.

Is this going to be the only coverage this game gets on this site?
