I think that's actually a device allowing you to output your PS1 video to a composite recording device. We used to have one at the store with the box and everything. It's if you wanted to video tape your gameplay, I think.

Curious about an arcade punching game where you got your photograph taken, it was then used on the screen for damaging along with a pop-up punch bag? Ringing any tunes there kids?

I'm trying the remember the title of a puzzle game for WiiWare if I'm not mistaken where the graphics begin as Atari style and gradually upgrade to 8bit, 16bit, 32bit and so on. You know, like Rez where the graphics are "nude" at the beginning as as you progress the graphics are uprgrade.

A side scrolling platformer on the NES. I believe you began the game in a town and had two options available to you. Walk to the right and jump down a well where you could sit until you died or walk to the left and sink in some quicksand. For the longest time I thought I had dreamed the game up until I asked my brother about it and he remembered the frustration we shared at it's seemingly impossible first stage/intro. That sounds like some serious existential awesomeness. No idea what it is though!

Technically NOT a game. But I think originally Japanese?
Around 1998 a Japanese friend of mine showed me a stainless steel metal ring, which had about 5 or 6 smaller copper rivets on the main stainless steel hoop (only just big enough to fit on the hoop). He also had Japanese instructions and some newspaper clippings. Can't remember what it was called though!
The trick was you'd slide your hand down hard over the copper rings so they started spinning on the main, large loop. Then you'd spin that with two hands, its motion maintaining the copper rings. If you were really good you could also juggle and perform tricks.
It was kind like a cross between a yoyo and hulahoop almost. It might not be Japanese in origin, but I've never seen it anywhere else other than on that day.
Random googling for "Japanese stainless steel ring smaller copper rings juggling spinning" brings up no decent results.

There's a game, possibly/probably an RPG, where there's a female character that shouts "Umbra" or "Oombra" whenever she attacks. I have no more details than that, I'm asking for a friend. :U

i have a request of everyone. between 8 of us game store employees, and numerous internet searches, i still can't find out what game i am thinking of.
it was a super nintendo game my brother had bought from the video store he worked at a long time ago. the box art was a big blue mech, kind of angular. i don't really remember the game too much. if my brain's not screwing with me (as it tends too) the gameplay was vaguely like bangai-o, in that it was a side scrolling game, with a blue robot. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sure you're right, but surely that's too easy? Also, the JPN boxart matches his description perhaps more than the US art, since it's very angular: Other ideas include: Mega Man Mechwarrior (first person) Mechwarrior 3050 (overtop) Metal Combat: Falcon's Revenge (lightgun?) Genocide 2 Probotector: Alien Rebels Turrican / Turrican 2 Rise of the Robots (Note: joke option) Hagane Just google all those titles. It must be one of those.
