Let's positive thinking.
I'll be playing Demon's Souls for the final night. Taking all comers.

Mine is supposed to be here tomorrow; they updated it to show that it shipped at like, 5 today so you might want to check it again Jason.
I just hope I actually have time tomorrow to play it...

Still saying 10/07. I ordered back in August, Amazon. What are my $80 for Prime going towards???
I mean, it isn't like I'm running out of games to play at the moment. Quite the opposite. Still, it's the principal of the matter.

I suppose I should give Demon's Souls another chance at some point here. It wasn't doing much for me last time.

Well you never know, you could experience a complete 180 like my friend. Around Demon's Souls' release he hated the game and couldn't understand how I could enjoy playing such a terrible game, much less play through it multiple times. I let him borrow it again a few weeks ago-- giving him a quick rundown on the basics this time-- and it quickly became one of his favorite games... until he encountered an extremely rare, inexplicable glitch that caused blacksmith ed to disappear so he could no longer craft weapons. He quit after that, and I don't blame him.
But he liked the game enough to get Dark Souls. Mission Complete.

Just got back from Wal-Mart. They apparently had 2 copies total, so my friend and I got the only ones in the store Waiting for stuff to update/install right now before I can start.

I suppose I should give Demon's Souls another chance at some point here. It wasn't doing much for me last time. You should give it another chance. In my case, it was love at first sight, and then after getting a few stages in I got frustrated and couldn't understand why anyone liked the game. Several months later I decided to finish the game and sell it, but in finishing it I learned how to play it, and it ended up being probably my favorite game released in the lat decade. If you have to, check out the Demon's Souls Wiki online and just browse around a bit. You can learn a lot about how to get an effective character quickly (hint: Royal, because you can get through quite a few stages and bosses using long range magic, then you can find a weapon that scales its damage based on your magic stat, and you can suddenly become an amazing melee fighter as well). As for Dark Souls, unless it REALLY improves in the next few hours I'm gonna consider it a decent game but a step down from Demon's Souls and thus a failure as a sequel.

I'm not feeling any of the resentment/frustration you are, newtmonkey. I've played it for about 7 hours and it really has been everything I could ever want from a sequel. It's most likely due to me focusing exclusively on weapons and melee; my friend has been trying to make a Thief work and he's having a much harder time than I am.
I love the new structure, because while there is definitely a "first area" that's clearly easier than any of the other places you can go, once you start going through it and finding more shortcuts it feels very open. Plus, the level design is still very Demon's Souls, with several items hidden in little alcoves you have to search for and such.

If the game more or less forces you to go melee to survive, isn't that sort of a step back in itself? I know newtmonkey theorized they could be trying to amp up the online aspect, and maybe they balanced other classes more as support. But still...

I'm hearing reports on another board that some people are getting shafted on their Limited Editions. Supposedly Best Buy at the very least is telling people to either take a regular edition or a refund. Hope nobody here gets burned on that.

I agree that the level design is much like Demons Souls, but the structure doesn't do much for me. I'm about 10 hours in now and I have opened up a lot of shortcuts and stuff. But they are all just shortcuts back to the starting area. So far the route through the game is still basically a straight line from one area to the next.
