hg101.kontek.net/deathtrapdungeon/deathtrapdungeon.htmThis 3D action game got lumped in together with Tomb Raider, but it's actually a different thing, generally. Amusingly, there's this computer chain called Micro Center which used to buy clearance stuff and stick them in the back corner. As early as a year ago they still had several unopened boxed copies of this for $1 apiece, so of course I bought one (along with about 7 copies of Daikatana.)

Wow, the PC version looks a lot smoother. This was one of the few games that I came in wanting to enjoy back in the late 90s but just stopped playing due to disinterest. I'm surprised the article didn't mention the provocative ad.

I have 4 copies of the PC version in my closet somewhere. Although I'd need to check I don't think they have interesting in them like the beastirary which I know the PSone release had (Australian release I guess...can't check not at home). But the box has an unusual trapezoidal shape that really needs to be mentioned in the article. I can grab you a photo if you want.
As for the game itself I absolutely adore the enemy variety and weapon set, if the controls weren't so horrible early 3d platformer it'd truly be a classic.

I really wish it had looked better and played better too- I genuinely loved the enemy variety and the weapon variety too. It could be remade really well into a Demon Souls style game but I doubt that'll ever happen sadly. I also loved the old Fighting Fantasy books too though so maybe that makes me biased. I got close to finishing this years ago and then lost my memory card- d'oh! Anyone ever beat this?

Ugly as it is...I am pretty sure I preferred the PS1 edition due to the layout of the maps etc...

That was common for Eidos games back in the day. Tomb Raider and Tomb Raider II had the same thing. Also their PC port of Final Fantasy VII, which I am ashamed to have paid full price for in 1998. =P

Don't be. If you've still got it, it basically commands retail price nearly fifteen years after release, mostly due to its modability.

Aren't there only like three Micro Centers left in the country? There's one somewhere in Northern Virginia (Fairfax?) and that's the only one I know of.

According to the website there are 25 in the US. I go to the one in Paterson, NJ - I've driven past the one in Yonkers, NY too. They are an awesome store - basically a brick and mortar Newegg.

If only I'd been wise enough to keep the box and contents aside from the discs. It's probably worth nothing for disc-only. =P [edit] Cursory examination suggests otherwise. Hmm. Maybe it's time for "WW Games" to stock the shelves again, so to speak...

Fun fact: The screenshots Steam uses to showcase Deathtrap Dungeon are from Hardcore Gaming 101. Oh, and the game is also on sale right now: store.steampowered.com/app/245010/
