If you want cute and RPG-like, we’ve got you covered with Gunple: GUNMAN’S PROOF, a fantastic but overlooked gem from Japan that now has a fan-translation. Imagine Zelda: A Link to the Past, except set in the wild west, with guns instead of swords, an adorable horse to gallop around on, plus space aliens and a focus on high-scoring. Yes, it’s that kind of awesome. www.hardcoregaming101.net/gunple/gunple.htm

Aw man. I think this was the first game that I submitted to VGMuseum's ending section. Good times.

Nice little article! Could be a little more impartial in places but still- nice to finally know what it is about, might have to give it a whirl in future.

Nice article! Gunple kind of reminds me of the Mother series, especially with the similar look and strange sense of humor. I'm very glad to see Lenar's swan song covered on this site.

hmm, it's GANPURU, Not Gunple - I guess that's Gunplay in katakana.

"Gunple" is just the name that the English community has latched on to. "Ganpuru" is a combination of "Gunman's Proof", so the actual title should be something like "Gunproo", but that sounds silly. (Not like "Gunple" is much better...)

Checking the katakana in the title, yeah ガンプル = ganpuru I guess so, yet another compounded title [in the vein of KanColle etc.] Though I wonder how that re\le got it's way into that Gunple? Probably some attempts at pronouncing ganpuru I am giving this way more thought than it deserves .

"puru" is a common way of writing "-ple" in Japanese. For example, apple = appuru (アップル).
Japanese compound titles of English words are exceedingly common. Dragon Quest = Doraque (ドラクエ), sexual harassment = sekuhara (セクハラ) (I don't know why that was one of the first examples my Japanese teacher taught us...)
