I was thinking last night after playing SotN how I never regard it as one of my all time favorite games. It has had a huge impact on my hobby, yet when I asked it's never in my top 10. Then I thought well that changes so often as it is. Then I thought what if make the guys and gals on HG101 put their top 10 games of all time on the boards. No wishy washy so many good games nonsense. Right now off the top of your head list your 10 favorite games of all time. 1 being the best Mine are:
10. Rogue Galaxy (PS2) 9. Sonic the Hedgehog (Genesis) 8. Quackshot (Genesis) 7. Final Fantasy Tactics (PSP) 6. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PS1) 5. Final Fantasy XII (PS1) 4. Outlaws (PC) 3. Final Fantasy VII 2. Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow 1. Neverwinter Nights (PC)
There you go I'm looking forward to all your lists.

I'm not going to number mine. I'm just going to list the first 10 that come to mind as "best games I've ever played," in the order they occur to me.
Super Metroid (SNES) Final Fantasy VII (PS1) PopoloCrois II (PS1) Moon: Remix RPG Adventure (PS1) Opoona (Wii) Ys: The Oath in Felghana (PC/PSP) Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne (PS2) Space Channel 5 part 2 (PS2/DC) Solstice (NES) Goonies II (NES)

This is something that I struggle with a lot. The top three never change, but beyond that, it's anyone's guess.
1. Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence 2: Vagrant Story 3. Silent Hill 2
----------------------------------------------
The rest would include, in no particular order:
No More Heroes Clock Tower Suikoden II Persona 2 Katamari Damacy Lumines: Puzzle Fusion
Even then, it feels like I'm leaving a ton of deserving titles off the list.

1. Tyrian 2. Death Rally 3. Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn 4. Deus Ex 5. Doom II: Hell on Earth 6. Master of Orion II: Battle at Antares 7. System Shock 2 8. Planescape Torment 9. Eye of the Beholder 10. Command & Conquer
This list is not accurate. it IS too hard, but I think the pattern would be the same if I could get an accurate list down. I've thought of 5 PC titles I had to drop from that list, and I'll be getting X-COM: UFO Defense in the mail next week (never played it before).

Totally made from the top of my mind, measures both the impact on me and how many hours I have sink on it. Include double entries in games that are almost an expansion of the original
God Hand. Baldur Gate 1/2/ Planescape Torment. Super Street Fighter 4/AE 2012 (note the omission of the original SF4 and regular AE). Dungeons and Dragons Tower of Doom/Shadow over Mystara - Alien vs Predator Arcade. Okami. Final Fantasy VI. Mass Effect 1/2/Multiplayer of 3. Dark/Demon souls. Zone of Enders Second Runner. Shin Megami Tensei series.

Even then, it feels like I'm leaving a ton of deserving titles off the list. Oh yeah I know how you feel, I hated leaving Dragon Quest IX off there as well as FFIV.

Super Metroid Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 Super Castlevania IV Sonic 3 & Knuckles Super Mario Bros. 3 Dragon Quest VII The King of Fighters '98 The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past Ristar Pokemon Gold & Silver Version
I didn't bother numbering these because I have a hard enough time picking my top ten favorite games. I left out a lot of fighting games that I could have listed to try and accommodate a wider range of genres, and out of all the fighters I really enjoy I would probably rank KoF'98 as the best due to the roster and game mechanics. As for a few others listed here; many of these games I picked because of nostalgia, but I still feel they're solid games on their own.

I'm not ranking them, but these are the ten games I consider essentials for me.
Beyond Good & Evil Chrono Trigger Skies of Arcadia Legends Resident Evil 4 Mega Man 3 Persona 4 Hotel Dusk: Room 215 Super Metroid Portal Morrowind (I've had Red Dead Redemption up here for a while, but I've been thinking lately that Morrowind deserves it more)

Other than my #1, none of this is set in stone. You did say "off the top of your head" afterall. ;D
10. Custom Robo. 9. Super Smash Brothers 8. Shining Force 7. Pokemon sapphire 6. Star Fox 64 5. Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 4. Fallout 3 3. Kingdom Hearts 2. Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars. 1. Final Fantasy X
As much as I love fighters, I wish I could add some, but they're not much fun alone.

I'm just going to run with them. (: -Tom I'm not going to lie, I'm disappointed, Tom. Too many of those have English versions. Was expecting 10 with an insurmountable language barrier for those without fluency. As for me, you'll all get a boring and predictable list out of me. 10. Rollerball (NES) 9. Burning Rangers 8. The King of Fighters 98 (UM) 7. Tyrian 6. ThunderForce 5 5. Jet Set Radio Future 4. Guardian Heroes 3. Chrono Trigger 2. Phantasy Star 4 1. Gunstar Heroes The top 5 are pretty much set in stone, the others can fluctuate every now and then.

Argh, this kind of thing always drives me nuts. I've played so many games by this point that trying to narrow it down to ten in any kind of order is simply impossible. The list will inevitably change depending on my current mood and what games I've been playing recently.
So that being said, here are the first ten that come to mind:
Deus Ex Planescape: Torment Ultima Underworld Fallout Castlevania III Dragon Quest Warrior III Super Metroid Mega Man X Betrayal at Krondor X-Com

In somewhat chronological order
Megaman2 Megaman3 Final Fantasy VI Chrono Trigger EarthBound (pretty sure) Super Street Fighter II Turbo Street Fighter III Third Strike Super Street Fighter IV AE 2012 (bit hesitant to put here) Ys Oath in Felghana Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown
klaid, good topic. Very interested in other member's opinions. This topic is good once a year.

I like the no particular order approach.
Battle Garegga Nowhere Espgaluda Metroid Prime Soul Blazer Xenoblade Chronicles Garou: Mark of the Wolves Black Heart Super Smash Bros Brawl Metal Slug 3
Not as diverse as I would have liked. I wanted to include an adventure game or two in there, but I was having problems thinking of more than three that I've actually completed. I guess the list is subject to change too. If I were making this list 3 years ago, it would have looked completely different.
