These things are hard as hell to find. Why? MSX ROMs and disks are everywhere.
I'm mostly looking for Falcom stuff. I want to do articles in the near future on Dragon Slayer (the really old one that makes no sense) and Romancia, but I've been having no luck finding them anywhere.

I assume you already have Ys games for PC-8801?

Yeah I have the PC ports of the PC88 Ys games. So I'm OK there.
At this point I'm mostly looking for Romancia and Star Trader. I found Dragon Slayer in one of the packs Rasa pointed to, but I've seen screenshots of a different one? There is a place in Japan to legally download them from and they're cheap (like 400 yen each) but they're "down for maintanance"
Trying to get into those Japanese IRC servers was an adventure in and of itself. First off, the "list of servers" points to a website that doesn't exist anymore. I found the cached version, and all but one refuses my connection. The one that DOES connect boots me out for not having the right password.
I do another search on that specific server and find out that it's been password protected to keep non-Japanese out of it the server. They list the password but it's some kanji I'm not familiar with and can't find translated, plus I need to stick it romaji for it to be recognized. I do a search and discover it's actually a name (Yatsuhashi). It works, I enter the room and...there's like three other people there. Certainly not the uber populated channels I'm used to.
Maybe I'll try giving my Japanese a workout...

Haha yeah I figured the IRC bit would be interesting. All those hoops and alienation for just a couple of dudes talking about Dark Fact and which FM Towns dating sim is the best.

My brother owns Star Trader and he's a pretty big fan of it. Maybe he could help you with information on PC88 stuff. I'll send him a link to this thread.
