Ok, I figure since this involves playing console games on your PC that it goes in here and not in the Off Topic secton, so here it is.
Recently, I built a new computer. Since the motherboard I got (cheap from a friend) had few PCI slots, I decided to go with an ATI All-In-Wonder solution, which is a TV card and Graphics card all in one. I figure I could save on desk space by putting my TV in my computer...a logical solution.
So I get around to building the thing, and the video works fine..wonderful in fact. Except I notice that after installing the TV software that everything has a 1 second delay. While a standard option in PVR, it of course makes playing video games impossible. I figure there's a way to turn it off. Low and behold, in the version that came with my card, there is NO WAY to turn this feature off AT ALL. So I try going to a lower version, one which I hear you can turn it off....apparently ATI prevents you from downgrading to a version of the TV software lower than the one you have. So I try every third party solution (DScaler, VLC, K-TV, a few others) and none of them look very good. (ATI's picture quality with the console was pretty good however).
At this point, I'm pretty frustrated. So I submit a ticket to ATI. 1 week later (!!!) I get a reply saying that I am in fact screwed, and there is no way to downgrade.
So, that leaves me with a question...
The card itself works very well (as does normal TV), but because I bought it so long ago before buidling the computer, I don't believe I can return it without some sort of penalty....so, I'm thinking about a VGA box solution. I saw a few on Lik-Sang that looked pretty good (with component, no less), and I believe that VGA boxes have come a long way since the dreamcast era, but I don't have any first hand experience with one, so I was wondering if you guys knew anything about it.
My other 2 options are to get another TV card (ugh) or an actual TV (arg).
