Well, as I said, I'm not even mad. If I'm the only one who wants comic replaced with manga, then let's not.

Trying to find one or several persons to single out as the directors or main designers of these games is so confusing. The fandom only ever lists the writers and manga artists, while the credits only really highlight the producers, including a "production lead" (制作総指揮) at the very beginning (for the first three games this was SEGA president/vicepresident Shouichirou Irimajiri). It's almost as if the game part of these games didn't matter much.
Deep inside thehe credits, there are usually two parts (aside from the animated movie bits) that list a director, I guess one is once again involved with the project coordination as a whole, while the latter is the game part? The director in the category 企画監修 is always Shun'ichi Ii (from the Dreamcast versions of 2-4, but the Japanese Sakura Wars Dictionary lists him as director of Sakura Taisen 3-V, so maybe he took only over for the dreamcast port of 2?)
The other category differs with each game: ST2 (Dreamcast): 企画制作: Tomoyuki Itou (chief director), Hirotada Hashimoto (director) ST3: 企画開發: Akira Nishino ST4: 企画開發 Katsuhito Kotou STV: ゲーム製作: Akabane Takehiko
The English version of Sakura Wars 5 lists one Takumi Kataoka as director instead. But I couldn't find him in the Japanese credits, and I wouldn't trust a translation that lists people as "Production Stuff".

on page 4, Kinematron Hanagumi Mail is listed for the GBC instead of the Dreamcast
(also I too find it a bit odd to use "comic" instead of "manga" in the same sentence as using the Japanese title for a series instead of the localized one, and the article casually tossing around a lot of japanese terms that western audiences aren't as familiar with like "okama" and then explaining it in parenthesis. it's the author/editor's choice and they can do it however they want to but it seems a little inconsistent)

If the author will add anything to the article, it would be nice to get a quick write-up on the Pocket Sakura. Toward the end of the digital pet craze, Nintendo released Pokemon Pikachu 2 that connected to Pokemon Silver and Gold via the IR port on the top of the GBC. In similar fashion, one was made for one of the GBC Sakura Wars games (notice the published "Media Factory" at the top of the device).

I had one of those years ago. It was bundled with Sakura Wars GB. As I had only a GBA at this time, I could never try to transfer anything. Sadly I lost it during a trip to a museum. ._.'
Hanagumi Taisen Columns is in fact one of the best Columns versions I ever played, and I played almost all of them. Gameplay is pretty fast and the charge attacks make for a great competive game. The choice of attack, charging and clearing own lines is also presented by a LIPS meter The AI opponents are hard but beatable and the soundtrack is great as usual. (BTW does anyone knows if the OST is somewhere on the internet, or if it's possible to rip Saturn music? The only CDA files on the disc are the ending theme and what seems to be the CD-player warning) I definitively need to get my hands on Hanagumi Taisen Columns 2 someday.

I do know that there is an arcade version of Hanagumi Taisen; perhaps M1 Player may be of assistance.

This article was very informative and insightful. I want to read that recent shojo manga where it inverses the "guy with a troupe of girls" element of the games. XD

I also agree that the SW5 entry is pretty bare. Where's the profile for Plum & Anri? Where's the description of the wacky launch sequence for your airship?

Longtime reader, first-time poster Bakudon here.
Having played all the main series ST games, I had been waiting for a while for a ST article in HG101. Unfortunately, I would have appreciated a more analytical look, especially on the main series games.
The overall style is uncritical and fanboyish, which is excarbated by clumsy Japanese translations sprewn throughout the article. At least the ridiculously short length of STIV is mentioned, but even then the tone is not very critical, although it well might be. The quality of writing (or lack thereof) in the games is not mentioned at all, and the article has little commentary about how ST games compare to similar games, or to each other. Most such comments are found in the STV entry, which otherwise is indeed very barebones, as are the entries for the GB games.
Still, there is lots of ground to cover, and content-wise the article is exhaustive.
On a personal note, I find Iris to have the most annoying voice anywhere ever.

I read everything about the entire series and I loved every single detail that HG101 wrote down. I've been a fan for years through the anime adapations since 2001. I've finally got my hands on all 5 games and I see why the series was so successful. Bernie Stolar has made a mistake for making a such a ridiclous policy for not bringing Sakura Wars to the West during the Saturn era. What also blows me is that there are All-Stars crossover games other than Sega Splash Golf that doesn't feature any characters from Sega of Japan's history and Sakura is one of them. I was shocked to hear that Sega Europe didn't know what Sakura Taisen was. A Koubu car would have been so perfect. However an employee from Sumo Digital is giving Sega characters a chance as DLC racers. So far, Sakura is one of the top five most requested female characters (not counting Miku) by fans. I was wondering if any other forum members here heard about the petition and want to see some Japanese characters represented in Transformed. Here's a link for Sakura www.change.org/petitions/sumo-digital-sega-include-sakura-shinguji-for-sonic-all-stars-racing-transformed

Also bears noting that NIS America said that ST5 was the biggest voice over project they'd ever done. I thought the dub was very good, personally.
Localizing a Sakura Wars game is no easy feat.

BTW, seeing as KÅran is supposedly Chinese, I'd say it would be correct to call her Li Honglan.
Funny how Iris' name is pronounced the English way even though she is French... except in attack names. Also, Soletta, who is supposedly half-Italian, speaks Japanese with an English accent. ?_?
