I immediately notice that "January" is "Januaru" on the front page. Aigh.
Other than that, I am still amazed I wrote so much about this freaking game. I COULD potentially talk more about the MSX game that Pony Canyon released directly based off of House, but I only found that out after I initially submitted the article and I'm not sure if I want to dote on this subject further.
That being said, House is a good film and I recommend it. It is overall more fun than Dr. Chaos. lol

That's actually pretty cool. I didn't know about House. Didn't even know it existed until now. It makes me want to see it for the Dr. Chaos similarities.

I'd like to read about that. Now I'm super curious. What's this game called? Does it have a page on some MSX website where I read more on it? You cant hold out on juicy details like this! Gen MSX doesn't seem to have it?

It's called Goblin... There's actually an English translation as well. I'm still looking into the pony canyon connection for a possible guest blog post.

Neat, it's like a top down version of Dr Chaos. Almost.

I've always kind of appreciated Dr. Chaos for what it was trying to do, even though it mostly fails. (Although, I still think the title screen where you see somebody get stabbed in the house when the lightening flashes, is kinda cool.)
However, anyone who wants to see this concept done right should check out the Goonies II. IMO, it's one of the best games on the NES. I'll play through it every couple of years just because it's well-executed and has really great music.

This game was originally developed for the FDS and later ported to the NES. I did a quick search and did not see any mention of this, aside from the system category, and if there were differences between versions. The only obvious one is that I believe the FDS version features Japanese text in the game. Also, does the game use the FDS' extra sound channel? I couldn't find a definite list for games that use the extra sound channel.

Long as someone else bumped this anyway, I might as well note: I finally got around to playing that Mashou no Yakata Gabalin game on MSX, and unlike Dr. Chaos, it's actually REALLY GOOD. It's a very engaging, fun game with a genuinely creepy vibe (for an MSX1 title especially!) as well as some tough boss fights and enough cool hidden rooms and power-ups to really keep you coming back for more. I would highly recommend anyone who's played Dr. Chaos check it out, as it kind of surprised me with how well-balanced and interesting a gaming experience it turned out to be.
