Well, I just checked out both the US and Japanese versions of Blue Stinger in the r149 SVN build of NullDC and there's some really annoying graphical glitches throughout. They're still quite playable (hint: as soon as you fire up NullDC, go to the plugins and select the PuruPuru plugin for your input/Maple plugin so that you can use a PS1/2/3/360 controller!), but the experience is significantly degraded. Sotenga mentioned earlier that it seemed to be fairly okay, maybe there's better support in one of the other versions of nullDC?

Sotenga mentioned earlier that it seemed to be fairly okay, maybe there's better support in one of the other versions of nullDC? It's still playable enough, just a bit annoying with the flashing polygons and the lack of images when you pick up an item (but it'll show ok in your inventory, I think). The item display bug happens in MakaronEX 4.1 as well and it exhibits some different funky polygon problems. Sometimes it looks pretty ace, sometimes there's weird culling/priority issues. What's the best method for cracking open a DC disc image and extracting a video to some other format (like uncompressed AVI)? I wanted to copy this video right off the image.

As much as I want to play a game featuring the wonderful Dogs Bowser I'm going to vote Chrono Cross. I tried playing it years ago and got stuck in the game, I was in a barracks or something quite near the start of the game and didn't know where to go. I never went back to it. That and I'm on the verge of beating Chrono Trigger again.

People are just pissy it's not Chrono Trigger 2. I think it's one of the best games of the era, even if it does have this weird pace to it all. Battles are incredibly quick. Too fast to be honest. And a lot of plot points are glossed over or lost. To be honest it's kind of like Xenogears crossed with Valkyrie Profile. A great big plot laced with some really fascinating subjects all told by the different people affected by it all. A confusing mess of a plot, but I'm sitting here years later trying to unravel it. I didn't vote for it because the game is still fresh in my head, because I'm reading things yet. If it does get picked and keeping with the theme of GC9X I want to be the guy who's beaten it and everyone comes asking for help. That or I'm gonna replay it in my own little corner going yes that's right.

The plot to Chrono Cross makes no goddamn sense. I had it all figured out at one point! But this was 10 years ago, I've probably forgotten it all by now. Most of it was pieced together from reading one of the Japanese guidebooks. I remember the whole thing being fascinating but in-game it was all badly told, a mish-mash of events that clearly either weren't finished or were cobbled together. It's still one of the best RPGs on the system though.

Chrono Cross, to me, is a failure in storytelling, but a masterpiece in visual and audio design. Also, for as irritating as I find the accents in the localization, they do occasionally go a long way toward really nailing the characterizations. Like, you know Riddel is nobility from the very first thing she says, even if you missed other characters referring to her as "Lady," because her speech mannerisms are extremely polite and flowery much of the time.
Also, Yasunori Mitsuda is an utter genius.

The plot to Chrono Cross makes no goddamn sense. It doesn't. Okay, I didn't get to the ending, but I seriously doubt that the game takes the time to explain everything at the end. Chrono Cross just isn't that kind of game. I didn't get too far in the story when I last played, but I did get far enough to see a major plot spoiler. Don't click if you care about the plot at all. Kid is Schala, kind of. Most of Chrono Trigger's cast is gone.

The plot to Chrono Cross makes no goddamn sense. Serge was attacked by a black panther as a child and his father, in a desperate attempt to find decent medical care for him, set off in his boat with his buddy Miguel for the mainland. They got sidetracked along the way and ended up at Gilligan's Island Chronopolis, a super advanced city from 2,600 A.D. (Chrono Trigger's desolate future, now saved because of the actions of Crono et al.) The people of Chronopolis had managed to fuck up the flow of time in a specific area around the Sea of Eden, causing it to freeze and persist throughout time, sort of like the Black Omen. Serge, because of his magic time mojo or whatever, managed to split the world in two - the Home world where he survived and lived on happily, and Another world where he died. He has basically become the X Factor in a split universe, the lynchpin that set things out of whack.
The side-story to Chrono Cross is the story of the Dragons, who are implied to be the descendants of the Reptites. Chronopolis' purpose is to monitor the dragons and keep them divided between the two worlds in order to sequester their power and prevent them from starting a hostile takeover of the currently human-dominated world. The Dragons realize that Serge has the power to recombine the two worlds and alter reality in their favor - that's why they help you out while Chronopolis and F.A.T.E. in the form of Lynx do everything they can to stop you.
Kid is Schala's reincarnation and also dumb. It makes sense, it just wraps around its own ass on so many levels that it's hard to get a grip on what the fundamental "plot" of Chrono Cross is. That's what happens when you have stories about time travel and simultaneously existing dimensions and shit. None of this accounts for the existence of Mojo however

Yeah, guess I should clarify. The way the plot of Chrono Chross is presented to the player makes it appear to not make any goddamn sense.
Also, joestar is 100% correct.
