That's amazing. "Gee, I dunno, Tim, I --" *tuktuktuktuktuktuktuk*Also! I was thinking this morning that one of the reasons this game sucks so much is that the music is so ear-achingly bland. So I wondered. Could better music make the game itself suck less? Let's find out! Just mute the game video and let the second one play out.

For those who have finished the (hacked) game, how long did it take you? I can make slow progress, but after about an hour or so I usually have to turn it off and do something else.

That's my biggest problem. Even without the fear of having to restart from scratch, I just get bored and play something else because it's like hey, there's an enemy that spits all sorts of shit at you and that shit multiplies into smaller shit, that then fragments. It's like they hired the multiplying turtle boss from Dr. Chaos to play the role of every other enemy in this game.
Is there any real benefit to one weapon over another? They all seem to do the same damage to me (i.e., spitwad-level). The animations and stuff are pretty cool at least.

I think one reason this game frustrates me is that any game where you can use chainsaws, dynamite, and nail guns as weapons should be a LOT more fun, just for that reason.

I didn't have much luck with Dynamite because the one time I got it, I kept getting raped by mosquitos. And even then, they took more than one hit. It's definitely the "torch" of this game. I hate to sound overly negative but this game has a potentially fun game inside it. Probably because Home Improvement took the potentially fun game and tortured it to death in a basement before eating it. I know this because the things like the groovy human sprites and animations are basically the identifying signet ring or gold tooth that got eaten along with it and were pooped out in our faces undamaged (by some miracle).

What's that? I said I was going to record a playthrough of Home Improvement? Well shit, I guess I did say that. So, 1cc clear of Home Improvement (normal version, not the hack):
Sorry about the cruddy framerate. That's caused by YouTube and there isn't anything I can do about it. Also, it should be noted that when I recorded the game I had to split it into two sessions to avoid having an excessively large 2 hour long uncompressed .avi file. I am also never playing this goddamn game again as long as I live. I had to complete this game a few times in order to learn it well enough to record a decent playthrough, and that isn't something anybody should have to suffer.

We salute your valiant sacrifice, Feynman. So what's everyone's progress on this as of late? I've taken a break from it so I can focus on schoolwork, but has anyone else managed to beat this yet?

I'm still stuck on 1-3 myself, I keep making stupid little mistakes that screw me over in the long run.

I chose to live. And now that Feynman's played through it I don't even need to rock this sad little game for reference (at least to completion).

Just as a minor note (and since one shows up in 1-3 IIRC), the special power-up that lets you walk across the spikes (I forget what it says but it's something like EXTRA POWER (I know, shouldn't it be 'MORE POWER' instead?)) also is the first thing to get lost when you take a hit. And like weapon power-ups, when you get hit it's still available to grab for a split-second after you get hit.
What does this mean? It means you can keep from dying from nearly anything that isn't a bottomless pit if you have it! Just jump right after you get hit and you should be able to pick it up. Doing this makes the boss at the end of the first set of levels way easier -- it's easy to tell if you're about to get hit, and you can get ready to jump when it happens so you don't lose your powerups!

WTF? Didn't quite follow the thread, but I just accidentally stumbled over the fact that this was designed by Activision legends David Crane and Dan Kitchen! If Mobygames is to believed, it seems to have been Crane's last game until the 2006 Lemmings clone March of the Penguins, too...

Ohhh lordie. I'll be glad when this one is over. And since I don't work Saturday, I may join you guys in the stream Friday night. Is it all comers welcome, or only certain people will be audible?
