I almost got the first one a Sears for $16 but I didnt have money at the time. I saw this just cam out and was curious if I should pick it up or not.

The first one is pretty good, after the 1st disk is over at least.
The second one has simpler battle mechanics, which is pretty good. The battle mechanics is one of the things that's good about Baten Kaitos.

I'm trying to get a copy to review for Armchair Empire, so I guess I'll let you know if that works out. The word around the street is that it's apparently better than the original but still not overwhelming awesome.
I only played a few hours of the original. My roommate (Joesteele on here) got to like the final boss before giving up. The battle mechanics were interesting but ultimately I got annoyed when I'd draw a hand of defense cards and be unable to do anything. I suppose the solution would be to better balance my deck of cards, but I'm not really into gameplay like that.

Yeah, I want a RPG for my cube, I almost comepletely forgot about it untill I saw an Ad about it.

Thankfully that whole defense, item and attack cards being mixed in the first game is not present in the sequel (or prequel).
Now your health is regenerated after each battle and you only have attack cards, so you can concentrate fully on making those 9 hit combos.
