I thought Yodanji was pretty good for a "coffee break" roguelike. I got it on Switch, but the Steam description actually calls it a coffee break game.

I'd toss out Logiart Grimoire, a new picross game made by the team behind TWEWY, of all things. Well, I say that and then see that they've spent their post-TWEWY years mostly focused on picross lol. It's well designed, has a lot of difficulty options, and has a neat set of gimmick, one where you have to fuse previous puzzle solutions to unlock more puzzles, and another where you get random nonsense puzzles from your mage friend at random.

Thanks, I picked up both of those suggestions. Logiart definitely seems to add a little something to the slightly bland (but perfectly acceptable) Picross aesthetic. But yeah, Jupiter have always been the Picross guys, with TWEWY being an outlier. They did used to dabble more. I enjoy some of their old pinball games.
I tried the demo for Bakeru. Basically confirmed it's very much my kind of game. Pretty much a light stage-based action-platformer. I'll definitely pick it up at some point. Not as Goemony as you might expect, though. It's also coming to Steam.

I finally got Steller Blade recently, and I've been enjoying that. The game is basically if Bayonetta and Nier: Automata had a baby.

I finally sat down to watch the part 2 of Did You Know Gaming's video on cancelled N64DD games, and it has a little section that pretty much explains why it failed so miserably. You could only get it by subscription! You had to pay about $25 a month for the first year and then $15 a month afterward. Technically, that $15 was for the required online Randnet subscription so the system bundle (64DD, expansion pak, mouse, a few games and the full Mario Studio set) was $120 spread out over a year. I had always assumed it was the FDS v2 and that it failed for some technical reason and not terrible business decisions.

Some of the platforming in Mega Man is BS. That's my whole post. Skill issue tbh Anyway I recently set up my PS2 and rediscovering how it's one of the all time best consoles. Played the crap out of Klonoa 2 last night and it's just as incredible as the original. Some of the level design gives Nintendo a run for their money, the level that used mirror effects was ingenious.

Eh, I don't think you can call this one a skill issue: Moving platforms moving in random direction. Not a hard section at all, but this morning I had to wait literal minutes for the first platform to move low enough for me to jump to it. I just don't think this kind of design holds up. Other than that, jumping with a ceiling directly above you whilst dealing with the slipperiness of MM is also something I don't think holds up, even though you can consider that skill based. I did just beat the game this morning, so I definitely have the skills (my post was more observational, I wasn't raging), and I wouldn't say that Mega Man is a particularly tough game outside of a couple of moments (probably the Yellow Devil is the toughest pattern to get down - you can't just cheese this fight like you can most of them either), but moments like the ones I mentioned date the game imo. -- And yes, we all know PS2 is an endless goldmine. It's pretty ridiculous how many good games are on that thing for a pre-indie boom machine. I don't think platformers are one of it's stronger genres - though that was more due to the trend at the time. Klonoa 2 might be the best one.

PCSX2 just had its first update in years last month which is nice since my PS2 doesn't work anymore. Last time I checked it out, it had rendering issues with R-Type Final which are all cleared up now. Seems nice and efficient.
