Surreal Horrific Disturbing Claustrophobic and Alone. 【STAFF】 _____________ [DIRECTOR] TOMOMI SAKUBA [PRODUCER] MASAHIRO IKUTA [Co-PRODUCER] AKIHIKO KAWAI [PROGRAM] AKIYA HAYASHI [3D GRAPHICS] GENGO ITO HIROKI WATANABE [MUSIC] TOMONORI TANAKA _____________ The current site the original official site is gone unless someone could wayback machine it. www.t-s-k-b.com/garage_private_edition/Garage is a japanese pc adventure game where you take the role of a strange on rails robotic organism that explores a mechanical GARAGE like world. The basic gameplay seems resource oriented as the robot has two bars. Interacting with npcs engages some sort of item shop. The game is all pre-rendered and digitized and gives a real 90's feel to it. The music is very solemn and strange. LSD has a similar soundtrack ambiance wise. I really recommend exploring the little site it's got many pictures and odd flash pages it brings up. The game had a limited run similar to the eastern mind game and it's oh so sought after equal Chu-teng or chutten. www.t-s-k-b.com/x/mt-search.cgi?tag=garage&blog_id=1I discovered the creators blog. This link directs you to all his post on the GARAGE game the related art and his shipping of the Private editions (deluxe sets with little books and such). His main blog is all about LAVES like wood laves metal laves. His really big into technical stuff this shows in the game directly. part 1 gameplay www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm13296952part 2 www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm13313248I am asking you other user to help me find more info if anyone understands Japanese that'd be amazing. Also Cutten Chu-tem Osamu Sato's lost game is getting tracked down along side garage by a group of fans hopefully something will come of it and someone can play it and write an article. Thanks and let's discover more obscure pc adventure games. TALLY HO TO DISCOVERY! Recently a copy is up for sale sadly the user is asking 561 dollars for it. aucview.aucfan.com/yahoo/h177049731/

Damn, thought I was gonna get some sleep tonight:) This game looks amazing, I found a blog with a write-up of someone's playthrough, might be worth a look; appears to be text-only though. 8-gatsu.ka.to/garage_play.htmlFunny, I had heard of Chu-teng and it's companion game but not this one...I'm searching perfectdark for a copy right now, but nothing so far...anyone have sharedb or winny? I've never got them to work, but they're better for older stuff like this.

The holy trinity. Chu-teng is on the left and eastern mind is in the center garage is to the right. Chu-teng is so rare even osamu sato the creator doesn't have one. These copies belong to a Japanese collector who sadly refuses to upload the disc iso's. The deluxe/private edition of Garage comes with art and some booklets. The Cover From Christopher Bankstons site. See below for info on who he is. The image of women being distorted is interesting, I wonder if it is a fear or maybe since this games is called GARAGE bad dream game. That the protagonist is a personification of a over worked mechanic who has trouble with women?? If you look at the site and the videos you can see why i draw this thought. LOOK WHAT I FOUND www.christopherbankston.com/productions.htmlAccording to this Christopher bankston was a producer of video games that later got into. His msot well known productions were Revenge of the shinobi Double dragon (gens) and TYRIAN 2000 (3 version of it) Here's the mystery how the hell did he fund garage how was he involved. UNLESS garage has a English release. This keeps throwing us further into the rabbit hole Through this link I have discovered that he also produced a game called Suikoden - The Chinese traditional Story www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXEkSZDE5Xg This is the intro movie to the game. I think this was mentioned on the Garage website. Made by the same people. Bankston's site has given me the best most hi res scan of the covers for Garage and Suikoden that might be on the net. I contacted him on youtube so hopefully I'll get a reply I could try emailing him as well. I need to find out more about this game. wayback.archive.org/web/19990508142850/http://www.kinotrope.co.jp/garage/ Seems someone found the opening page to the original GARAGE site. wayback.archive.org/web/19990507012654/http://www.kinotrope.co.jp/

So interesting, possibly inspired by the Shono games. Hopefully some more gets dug up about this - early to mid 90s pre-rendered games have a really unique look and this one looks really distinctive.

No idea man. This is why I need your help. We might be able to email the creator and producer for more info. Yet I'd like someone with more experience to do it. The only copy we might be able to acquire so too expensive for its own good. There's a collector who has Chu-Teng and Garage and Eastern mind. Sadly he's Japanese and won't burn (copy) them as he's too paranoid of getting in trouble. Since things like that are supposedly harsher in japan. So it would be nice if we could get more people helping the search as well. I could email the producer, but not sure what I should ask other then how can I get the game tell me your involvement.

I hope he replies. I also emailed the producer hope we get soem info on him He produced Revenge of the Shinobi and Tyrian 2000 he is relevant. It seems Hiroki Watanabe worked on some other games. twitter.com/Tomonori_I think I found the guy who did the music's twitter. I asked him if he was the one who did the music and etc. www.sonic-cult.org/dispart.php?catid=3&gameid=6&subid=1&artid=2It also seems that Gengo Ito was a artist for sega. So far he seems to have worked on sonic Shuffle I'll have to ask around though.

OHHH MY GOD I GOT AN EMAIL: If anyone wants to interview him please do as he said in the Email. Thank you for your email and kind words about my past products. It is always nice to hear from people who appreciated some of my work from when the game industry was still young and growing. I do interviews but because of my schedule, I ask people to prepare a list of questions and email them to me. I try to answer the questions in a timely manner and submit a reply. Regarding copies of my games: When Symmetry Entertainment was closed, we had a break in and all copies of our products were stolen (including my framed gold masters). You may wish to try and reach someone at Kinotrope in Tokyo as we co-produced Garage and Suikoden with them and they may have copies available. I have not been in touch with them for over 10 years and no longer have any contact information though. I'm also glad to hear that you enjoyed Tyrian 2000 and Revenge of Shinobi as they were also some of my favorites to produce. Kind regards, Christopher Bankston Vista 2020 International Entertainment www.ChristopherBankston.comThis totally sucks that they got robbed. I wonder if we should contact the creator or kinotrope now. Next step is to contact Tomomi `````````````````````````````````````` Breaking news 4chan has found a guy who has both versions pc and mac of Chu-teng. He posted there and hopefully will upload the game. Prepare for AWESOME.

I would be willing to sink some money into purchasing that copy off of Yahoo Japan Auctions, then rip a copy of it. Would anyone be in for a small crowdfund? Unfortunately the cost will be even higher due to importation and package forwarding fees.
Also, that Suruga-ya link isn't a copy of the game for sale, unfortunately it's just an entry if you have a copy of the game and want to sell it.

I'd be willing to chip in a couple bucks for an obscure piece of gaming history, although I can't promise much more than $20 tops.

So far some people on the 4chan board are gonna do it. Honestly I don't know who'd end up obtaining the copy though. I'd much rather have an admin here have it. Someone fluent in japanese. Yet I can tell them through skype. I honestly don't know how were gonna do this. Thanks so much guys. boards.4chan.org/vr/res/847773#p851192Here's the current /vr/ retro games thread about garage. boards.4chan.org/vr/res/847213The Search for Chu-teng Eastern Mind: the Lost souls of tong-nu's sequal A japanese person must of found us or something. Sadly it's mac only so you gotta emulate it on something like the first. Also within a week were going to have Chu-teng also someone found the Game design book by Osamu Sato. Finally we'll be able to read it's secrets. There's supposed to be a floppy that comes with it. I wonder what enigma it holds.

So wait, is someone on 4chan also trying to buy it? I'm not quite clear about what's going on in that thread.
What I would probably do is establish a small fund and everyone who donates gets a share based on the proportion of how much then donate. Then, I buy and rip the ISO. While it seems like a neat bit of history, the whole thing looks a LITTLE too creepy to have on my shelves. So after someone writes up an article to publish on the site, I'll put it up for sale. Either one of the donors can buy each other's share out (which would ultimately be about the same as full price) or I'll put it up for auction, and the revenue will be divied out proportionally, based on how much they put it.
Sound good?
I wouldn't mind interviewing Mr. Bankston, but I'd need to research his production roles a little more (and maybe once we get the game, too!)
Looks like we missed the last auction but the guy relisted. That gives six days or so to get enough funds to win this one. Is there any way we can set up a small separate fund that people can donate to? For transparency's sake, I'd rather not have the funds go directly into my Paypal account. Maybe set up a separate one?

There's a group of users from the chu-teng/garage 4chan threads that are plannign to do that. I posted the idea here. They're in one big skype chat. A user named Muckey and a few others. I would need to tell them so they can post here and we can confirm the plan of action.

Update 4channers discovered a website that's a walkthrough guide to garage hanamushi.jp/garage/garage3.htmQuick and dirty translation of the synopsis, it's readable but not great: "Garage is a 1999 adventure game for PC released by Kinotrope. These excessively bizarre settings and strange characters have been supported passionately by some enthusiasts. And this is not a shallow game with deliberately odd subject matter, if you think about the strangeness in the details then you can tell it has been meticulously crafted. The game mechanics and balance together are a splendid occurrence. (The frog fishing mini game is seriously too fun.) There aren't many people who know about Garage, but if you have an interest in this game, you should certainly try to visit the official Garage website." more info From reading the section on that website about frog hunting, it doesn't really describe the mechanics so well, but from what I can gather you can catch a few different types of frogs, and crabs, you can find different frogs in different places for which you need different bait like Frog Oil and Crab Miso, and netting rarer ones gives you a higher something (the table says "Stamp" so I'm just not sure about that one). From what I can tell, the main goal is to find the woman-machine thing that's on the cover (she's called Kage, or Shadow, not sure). Why, I'm not so sure, I think it's so you can escape the weird ruined world. Very interesting. Here's a map and a frog I guess from the game. It's cool to see what peopel can find also all this info from the other site helps a ton.

I'd definitely feel a lot more comfortable if someone like Kurt was in charge of obtaining it - People keep throwing around the term Mac and PC here - is this a Windows game or a Mac game? Or did it have a special release for both systems (keep in mind L-Zone for instance had a single release that worked on both PC and Mac).
I'd probably be able to pitch in a little just because it's something that I'd love to see ripped. Although we could try Assembler Games, they're pretty big on preservation and have the numbers to easily pick it up.
