A thread for all of those pieces of game music that defy typical genres.
For example: What is Kirby music? (Don't tell me "chiptunes" like some smart-alec.)

What define "Kirby music" usually are a high tempo, a bombastic melody and a noticeable rhythmic motif. From this, I'd say Jun Ishikawa mainly drew from Romantic music - except he incorporated "naive" instruments in the arrangements to give the whole thing a more "light-hearted" feeling.
I could be entirely wrong, though.

It always reminds me of music you'd hear in old Disney shorts.

Kirby's music has influences from latin, J-pop, rock, traditional Japanese music, cinematic orchestral scores and much more. The composer was thinking in terms of mood, not style, which is not that unusual in game soundtracks.

First part sounds a bit ska rock-ish, with the melody having some blues or soul influences. The rest, well, it's classical or folk based I suppose.
Otoh I usually picture a western chase scene with horses and trains when I hear the song.

This thread was made to be more than just guessing the genre of Kirby music, mind you. It was made to encompass ANY piece of music that breaks genres.
Here's another example... (Thanks to Snarboo for the introduction!)

Haha, well there's some sort of ethnic intro and then it sounds a bit jazz influenced. Somewhat reminds me of early disney cartoons but I don't know what the music styles in those are called.
The band The Residents have some slightly similar sounding songs and they're called avant garde, experimental or post punk.
