Fire and natural disasters are nasty events but losing ones home and property is one is probably worst. Has anyone here ever lose their game systems and collection from one such event? I've never had anything like that happen to me though.

I've never lost anything specifically gaming-related to this, but when I was a toddler there was a giant earthquake, and our living room television toppled over onto the floor, crushing my Hot Wheels racetrack. I was so upset

I haven't, but the fear of that happening is a big reason why I got rid of my stuff. Also, I had to ship all of it home to Illinois when I moved out of Florida, and all in all it cost me just under $500 to get it all there, and the thought of it getting damaged in transit was so nervewracking it just turned me off of the entire concept of collecting.

Very nearly lost all my retro gaming (pre-PS2) stuff to a basement flood a few years ago, along with my dad's entire vintage comic book collection. Managed to notice what was happening and get everything out just in the nick of time. Thankfully nothing was on the floor.
I made sure my basement was sealed, pumped and dehumidified pretty damn well after that.

I lost my original Playstation to a flood. This isn't that big a deal because PS1s were DIRT common at the time. The frustrating part was how it happened. My parents's house is old and the plumbing isn't in the best shape. They've had many leaks over the years but generally these only resulted in small puddles. I kept my PS1 on the floor because there wasn't any room on the shelves. One day I noticed one of the (braided metal) hoses was bulging really badly and looked like it was about to burst. I told my parents and their response was along the lines of "whatever". Two days later the basement was covered in almost a foot of water. Did I mention this is also where the cat's litter box was located?

I lost my 1st edition D&d player's handbook to some kind of humidity? Still not sure what the hell happened, I got home from college and it was water damaged.

My old Game Boy collection got stolen (except my Pokemon ones) during high school after a bomb was detected while I was anxious to leave my book bag in a locker with a lock on it and decided to use a locker without a lock to make a quick getaway. Dumb idea. But I was able to get the N64 CD holder back with CDs in it.

Never lost any games to a natural disaster, but I did lose a bunch of comics to flooding in 2001. Some were from the No Man's Land arc of Batman, which is one of my favorite Batman stories. You can download every issue ever made of every comic in history these days, but it's just not the same as holding the actual issues in your hands.

Same here. Never lost any games, but I had some old comics ruined on my way to school one day(3rd grade maybe?). Good ones too. Early 300s Spider-Man(Assassin Nation Plot), very early Wolverine issues, some X-Men. I had them in my backpack and some kid got on the bus and jumped in the seat next to me. He didn't look first and sat on my backpack, squirting my fruit punch juice box all over my books.

Some books I had were ruined by termite infestation and that was one of the most traumatising experience I've had in recent years. Although it's probably somewhat hilarious imagining these termites holding their own fight club sessions while devouring pages from Fight Club.
My Arabian Nights was eaten by a Dalmatian.
I accidentally sat on my brother's issue of Wetworks (the Whilce Portacio series) and it angered him so much, he wouldn't talk to me for days.

I'm suffering from similar fears. I increased my renter's insurance on account of paranoia that sprinklers will go off in my storage unit and fuck everything up. Actually that's just one of many reasons I'm entertaining getting rid of some or a lot of stuff. As for loss to factors beyond your control AND shipping, I whined about it earlier, but I'm still dealing with my insurance claim to the Japan Post from about two months ago (for a package Tenso fucked up the packaging on, resulting in a ton of worthless games). I finally got a letter from the US International Claims Research department that my neighbor was sitting on for over a month, and had to jump through some hoops to get the inquiry reinstated. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed, but it's been frustrating trying to get a straight answer from anyone on what to do. Define irony: Losing a bunch of comics where the Batcave gets flooded to a flood. That being said I'm sorry for your loss . I accidentally sat on my brother's issue of Wetworks (the Whilce Portacio series) and it angered him so much, he wouldn't talk to me for days. You did him a favor.

Nah, I did not. Early Wetworks was pretty good.

It was essentially impossible to leave my apartment complex for several days, as the water was waist deep throughout all of the roads leading through the place. I accidentally sat on my brother's issue of Wetworks (the Whilce Portacio series) and it angered him so much, he wouldn't talk to me for days. I'd say the termites did you a favor by eating Fight Club. That was one of the few instances I've seen where the movie was not just better than the book, it improved upon the source material in nearly every way.

Don't know if it really fits this criteria, but I knew a sailor who lost his PSP off the side of the boat into the Pacific Ocean because of rocking caused by swells.
