Voting ended Friday, December 5, 2014 at 10:30 PM EST. Dead poll here!Well, after last month's text-only offerings, we're back to games with pretty pictures and sound. But still forced to draw maps to be able to do anything. This month's game is: Obitus (PCs, SNES)From Wikipedia: Obitus is a video game by Psygnosis, released in early 1991 for Amiga, Atari ST and DOS systems. It was also ported for the SNES, by Bullet-Proof Software. The player takes on the role of medieval history lecturer Wil Mason, whose car breaks down while he drives through Snowdonia in a storm. He seeks refuge in a deserted tower, only to wake up in a strange world. Obitus is essentially an adventure video game, but with some arcade-style action as well. It combines several graphics styles and perspectives. It is a labyrinth game. Though nearly every piece of a forest or catacomb looks indistinguishable from the next screen, this can be dealt with by the player making physical maps, using the compass. The game is heavily focused on the need to make maps. Without them, the player will die long before making it to the end. There is very little food and time cannot be wasted walking around trying to find a way forward. PRO TIPPZ:Coming Soon! (maybe) Previous 3 GC9X Threads:

Put me down for Obitus! I'm in the mood for some weird British games.

Putting my vote in for Obitus! I've already beaten Soul Blazer, and as cool as Dragon Slayer looks, I cannot resist Psygnosis' trademark weirdness.

I've had more than enough of map-making adventure games for the time being, and I've played Soul Blazer entirely too many times.
Dragon Slayer is excellent and there's no representation of the PC-Engine in GC9X yet, so I vote for that.

Dragon Slayer is excellent and there's no representation of the PC-Engine in GC9X yet, so I vote for that. That's my vote as well (and reason for it). I only played through Soul Blazer once about 20 years ago, but that was enough. I'm not sure I have the patience for the typical Psygnosis bullshit.

Alright, I'm going to try something different this time: I'm going to stream the three games up for vote! The stream will start tomorrow at 9:30 PM EST here.

Dragon slayer interests me. Is the PC-Engine version the only translated one?

It is as far as I can tell! There might be a fan translation in the works for the other versions, however.

I'll look around. I just don't have a PC-Engine emulator. I voted for that anyway. I guess I'll be getting one of those if it wins.

Ouch, these choices. I don't own any of these, and Obitus doesn't look like my cup of tea while the other two are stupidly expensive (for the English versions at least). I'd love to own and play Soul Blazer, but I expected it to be a $10-$20 cart tops like other Enix SNES release like ActRaiser 1/2 and Brain Lord. I voted for it, but if it wins, I won't be joining unless I can land a copy at a price I can stomach.

No vote; just I sensed that someone typed out the words "Brain Lord" and it summoned me...

There's an English fan-translation for the MSX2 version of the game by Oasis. The English isn't perfect and you can tell they had troubles fitting everything in, but it's better than nothing.

Not that I'll have time to join in on this one, but I'd go for Obitus, because I love old school first person Dungeon Crawlers. I actually developed mapping software for these sort of games. The only problem is Obitus is 8 directional, so Im not sure how well my software would work. I'd love to get in on this, but I've been busy working on freelance comic book art.

Voted Obitus, because it's the farthest from my comfort zone.
