JAKE FUCKING KAUFMAN
JAKE. FUCKING. KAUFMAN.
jake kaufman
but yeah I funded this kickstarter. One of my most fun gaming experiences in recent years. Loved it.
One thing that could do with adding is a mention of the fact that the wandering boss characters on the map were designed by backers on Kickstarter who donated enough money, most famously Zubaz donated by the 2 Best Friends Play.

Aww, no mention of the name entry cheats? Besides the usual ones, there are also some fun "joke" codes, most notably butt mode.

I bought this for my wife for Christmas on 3DS. She says it's awesome, but I have yet to try it.
This really should get pixel accurate screenshots, though... the filtering looks horrible.

Believe it or not, this is actually what the PC version looks like...it's as pixel accurate as it can get, as there's no way to turn off the filtering. I think it's pretty subtle in action, though. The only way to get better screencaps for the site would be direct screencaps from the 3DS version, since that should output at a proper low resolution.

Great, so apparently the 3DS has a built-in screenshot function now, but it's tied in to the asinine Miiverse integration, so it takes half an hour per screenshot and you can only get them as shitty jpegs. But what seems almost like mockery: You can take screenshots properly without all that nonsense, but only of the 3DS menus! Oh Nintendo, you are such HUGE MORONS!
It should be possible to force antialiasing off in the PC version using the graphic card's control panel, though. I had to do that for Armored Hunter Gunhound EX to make the game not look terrible. That only helps if it supports a proper non-stretched multiple of its native resolution, though. Is there no Window mode?

This game has the best bosses. It's been a long time since I had this much fun fighting bosses. Mostly, because the lack of lives makes it so I can keep trying again and again and again. The Spectre Knight was a blast, even after my umpteenth try.

As it turns out, forced anti-aliasing isn't (technically) the problem, so much that the game only supports non-perfectly scaled resolutions, for some reason. Using the below instructions, you can create a proper resolution (I used 1600x960), then run the game in full screen, and it looks great. steamcommunity.com/app/250760/discussions/0/46476145015440549/I can probably retake some screens when I get the chance!

I was just wondering how long would it take for an article of this to appear on the site!

Quite simply one of the best games published this year, and a great example of retro done right. Also, Plague Knight is the best boss ever.

Kinda surprised the Baz's unusual history didn't show up in that article but it's still pretty cool. Never knew the Famitracker was even a thing until I read it!

If you have a 3DS.. I can't recommend that version of "Shovel Knight" enough! It's a great game no matter how you play it, but the 3D effect for the different layers of parallax scrolling is pretty awesome. I only recently got a 3DS, so I'm still pretty new to most of the library... but that's first time I've personally seen the 3D screen used that way for a 2D game.

Yeah, I like the 3D effect on it as well. I need to play some more, but I've suddenly gotten hopelessly addicted to Binding of Isaac: Rebirth.

I just got my 3DS about a week ago.. and I grabbed a few cheap used DS cards along with it, including "Final Fantasy Tactics A 2" which has sucked me in completely. I know the feeling, tho I don't have "Rebirth" yet (only the original / DLC expansion). But yeah man, there's an insane amount of awesome on the 3DS (including, of course, the substantially large DS library of awesome). That said, and despite the relative friendliness of the eShop format for indie games, I have yet to see another 2D game on 3DS that made me say "wow!"

Finally got around to play it. Really good game, nice article which points out why is it good, esp. compared to other NES styled games these days. I love how they dealt with dying and the difficulty suits me, it kinda reminded me of how vvvvv managed it. Only thing i hate- it has no proper gamepad support on linux! damnit!!!!!!!!!!!!!
