"Because, make no mistake about it, looking at a static screen of a game may not be as immersive, and therefore as enjoyable, as playing the actual game, but it sure is still enjoyable!" Fantastic writing. I don't know how any of you got past the first paragraph of that. Did you know that out there, there's people that think that you're all less than "Hardcore."

If being hardcore means being the gamer equivalent of the Taliban I'm glad to be casual.

I couldn't agree more. I guess we're just infidels bound by blood to our console making warlords.

Here's another solid gold one for you. His reasons for why the arcade business model worked are hilarious: insomnia.ac/commentary/arcade_culture/. I'm just stunned at what a hypocrite the guy is, considering he's got the gall to criticize New Games Journalism yet his rants are the epitome of when it goes wrong. I stopped reading four paragraphs in, but is this a joke or is the guy really that pretentious? As for the thread topic (or what the topic has become), I can't offer much. "Hardcore" has been a label that really gets on my nerves for quite a while, and I wish people would drop it and any other tags that they use to group crowds together (e.g. Casuals) and just have fun playing games. I understand that it's not that easy; people are going to categorize themselves and others, and in the case of gaming this largely seems to be due to superiority complexes. I'm guilty of this in the past, but I've since been able to distance myself from those attitudes and just enjoy games regardless of what console they're on or which company made them. It's as though somewhere along the way people forgot how to have fun.

It's as though somewhere along the way people forgot how to have fun. It just doesn't do anybody any favors when it becomes all about putting a metaphorical boot to someone else's face to make themselves feel like they're a "smarter" gamer. But this phenomenon isn't really unique to video games, it's widespread throughout anywhere where people gather on the internet. People get so wrapped up in wanting to look like the smartest (where some people mean it as "most knowledgable", or others as "most intutitive", or yet others as "most discerning") person in the room, to the point where little else matters.

I am surprised somebody would read that up to the fourth paragraph. The part where it says "Besides, I don't have any relevant statistics to back it up, and though I could certainly do some research and come up with some myself, frankly, I have better things to do with my time." was all it needed for me to know that he doesn't give a damn about either his subject or his readers. Nothing spells disrespect better than that.

So I read the first of those articles
I will never understand some people's feelings towards the site. I mean what do people hate about it so much? Also I shouldn't finish my article. I don't wanna know what it's like to become inbred retroactively.

When I first saw that link, I thought somebody had linked this one site that was going around giving bad reviews to games like Arkham Asylum and Sonic 2 just to be a dickhole. Apparently, I'm thinking of something else, though. Still, though, I can't even read all of that. I mean, I don't even see what kind of point this guy is trying to make, here. Something about Renegade, I guess?

There. To reflect the thread's current purpose and the fact that the Tetris discussion took up less than a page...I have renamed the thread.
[edit] Before I forget: please do NOT take this as an endorsement of there being a fifth "shit that pisses you off" thread. At least try to keep this one civil and on-topic, would-ya-kindly. =P

Is this thread relevant for complaining about Evolve & how its pricing structure will most likely open the floodgates for everyone else to copy it like most everyone else has copied all the other problems created over the last few years?
I don't know. I'm thinking this piece of work deserves its own thread but I don't want to start yet another complaint thread.
