www.hardcoregaming101.net/iji/iji.htmAn independently made retro Amiga-styled platformer in which a nanomachine-powered cyborg fights her way through a military base invaded by hostile aliens while trying to save the world.

I could have sworn we had a article on this. Weird.
Anyway, Iji is a great metroidvania. I like it a lot.

Since we have also MURI in 500-Word Indies, hopefully more games by Remar will be covered in the future. Iji is his "magnum opus" but he's made other quality titles like Hero Core and Hyper Princess Pitch (which I loved also because it's a silly-themed remake of Operation Carnage, an obscure but great shareware title).
My biggest gripe with Iji is that the game didn't seem really well-equipped for pacifist gameplay, some features were added only in newer versions and so felt tacked-on, but things may have further changed since.
"The level design is generally speaking great" - sounds a bit awkward.

I'd also love to see an article about Hero Core,it was a surprisingly addictive experience. That said,I agree with Gendo Ikari on Iji being Daniel Remar's finest game. I always liked cinematic platformers, with Flasback being possibly one of my favorite games ever, and this is a very good one.

One of my favorite indie games. As with many Metroidvanias, though, its non-linearness is still dependent on your stats in order to open up some areas, so it's not like you can just waltz into an area with some tough enemies with limited stats.

For the first time since 2010, the game has been updated. Beside the porting to Game Maker 7 for better compatibility there are several new features, namely (taken from the website's news) "such as two new endings, non-lethal "Passive Nanoweapons", overhauled text and graphics, faster walking speed, more dialogue modifiers, a new stat upgrade interface, and extended cracking/interacting range". Sounds like the pacifist options have gone through further better integration.

Looks like something I'd enjoy. I have a major love for metroidvanias with a good, coherent story/setting

You don't see people updating their game after seven years often, but props out to all the developers who do make it happen.

As far as indie titles go this looks pretty ahead of it's time for 2008, it looks like it could have hit Steam Greenlight yesterday.
