Unbelievably cool video! Why didn't they release it? According to info going around, they wanted something more american, so they did Vigilante, instead. Anyway, i also read that the rom was already dumped and submited to Mame. \o/ I was also kinda impressed with this prototype.

Vigilante turned out to be a rather mediocre game, part,y because the pace of the game was so slow. The Spartn X 2 prototype seems blazing fast, and that's the way a Kung Fu Master game should play.

Whenever I revisit all of my favorite games in this genre, I find out they were never as good as I remembered. For this reason, I will never replay Crime Fighters. That being said, I gotta put the original Final Fight and Aliens v. Predator as my top two. Many happy arcade memories there.

They're so simple you see through the design by the time you finished them for the first time, but there's barely any wear on them at afterwards IMO. They're like Commando (the movie), if you will.

There's some truth to that, I suppose... maybe it depends how long you've been away from them. Personally, I find the Capcom games, which I generally played later in my life, wind up holding up pretty good... The Konami games, which I generally played a younger age, never seem to match the version of them that exists in my memories.

Prett much my position on the matter.

A friend picked up the boxed Double Dragon Trilogy release, since it included a shameless copy of an SNES gamepad for the PC (which works quite well). I followed suit, since it's actually a very cool thing to be able to own a physical release of the arcade versions. Since a gamepad is included, 20€ was an okay price as well.
However, what I was getting at: I noticed that, in terms of pure mechanics, DD3 is actually pretty fun. It has by far the biggest amount of moves, and the air throw is super fun. It looks like ass, and the ganging and credit-munching is bullshit, but it's not all bad either.
And as iconic as the original is, I think I much prefer part 2's style over it.
