www.hardcoregaming101.net/46okunen/46okunen.htmEnix's EVO: The Search for Eden, a platformer focused around evolution, is a cult classic amongst SNES fans, but it's actually a sequel to an older, Japan-only RPG, 46 Okunen Monogatari ("4.6 Billion Year Story").

Wow. Nice article. I played the SNES plattformer quite a bit and LOVED it. I agree 100% with the article, it is hugely satisfying to experiment with it, but the controls feel clunky at times. Esp. the jumping always felt stiff to me. I never knew there was a game in the series before it..... Wow. This is one thing I love about this site, that I get to know obscure games tied to not so obscure games I already know about. It's just sad that there is no english translation for it, I'd love to give it a try...

Oh wow. I'm so glad that this article exists, as I've never found detailed information on the first game before. I'm delighted to hear that it's wonderfully bizarre, at least compared to the average game of the time. I used to play EVO a lot when I was a kid, but I never made it far. It's sort of important to me in a way, despite me only seeing a small fraction of the game.

That original game sounds pretty interesting, hopefully someone releases an English patch some day.

I didn't know much about the original game, it's very interesting to read about it, I didn't suspect it was so full of weird stuff though Played a lot of EVO (emulated) for review purposes, it's pretty interesting as well even if the levels are a bit bland. One gameplay feature not mentioned in the article is that there are some crystals (probably planted by the aliens) that let you save a form and then revert to that form when you want, ex. turning into a dinosaur in the mammal chapter. There are also other crystals that turn you into some powerful form wholly outside the evolutionary range. You can save and store these as well! Also, two barely-related things about the titles: -Why do the Japanese always have to put the English article THE (in all caps no less) in the middle of a completely Japanese sentence? -What does the E.V.O. acronym actually stand for?

For some reason, I thought EVO had long been covered here. Nice to see it is now of course!

Wow, I was just showing EVO to a friend last week. This game had so much potential, so cool but so clunky. The queen bee is possibly my least favorite boss ever. I always hoped they would make a really slick sequel, something _just_ a little bit more like a normal platformer.

Would love to see a translation of the original game. The project seems to be alive.
What's with Lucifer, is she a sister of Gaia or something?

I'm having an unusually hard time finding a ROM for this game. Can someone point me to a safe site or is willing to email to me? PM regarding my question is okay if preferred.
