Weren't bored playing Solitaire much? The graphics were unchanged from 3.0 to I think XP maybe even Windows 7. No, I never saw the appeal of playing card games on my computer, especially if there isn't any additional flash to them. I consider those a waste of time (and that's coming from someone who plays Watara Supervision games out of sheer curiosity). Playing with friends and real cards is a different matter altogether.

Hmm, I was thinking I might try this for fun. So what are the rules? Can you look up the screenshot if it seems familiar to you, or do you have to guess blindly (as such)?

I didn't put any research in or check the hints this month either I'm afraid. I must have missed something somewhere because I have 17 on my written list - oh well.
The ones I knew off hand were -1-9, 11, 13 14, 19-21. No 20 - Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters was one of my absolute favourites on the ST as a kid. Computer card games are never a waste of time.

I see windfisch is already covering this for me. Welcome to the quiz! But let met copy my statement from the page he linked: about googling for answers... I don't want to set rules I cannot enforce, but there are definitely two schools of thought about playing this game ("play blind" vs "do research"). This makes me walk a tightrope where I want to keep the game fun for the ones playing blind, and still offer a challenge for the other players. That's why the last row is especially difficult and gets no hints. (...) but I do have a complaint: the hint implying Final Fantasy II to be a spin-off was a bit misleading. I was thinking "that looks like Final Fantasy" but couldn't think of an 8-bit spinoff...
You are right about that complaint, someone from NintendoLife brought this up as well... I put them as "regular entries" in the german version, I don't know why I turned it into "spin-offs" when I translated it. Maybe I was tired and didn't realise my mistake! 🤷♂️ Next round starting this Friday.

July Quiz - Gaming MapsWell, when was the last time you drew a map yourself in a video game? I think my last really big dungeon map was in the RPG Ishar 2 in the 90s, in my old math exercise book... after that, small stuff at most. This round is about all kinds of "maps" - from futuristic radar UIs to classic dungeon crawlers, from transparent automaps to floor plans scribbled on paper. So, how many do you know? And bonus question, where did I take the map from the intro picture from? Once again, I'm sure I've left out a lot of really great games because I simply didn't know them (or the titles were already in previous rounds). Leave me a comment with your favourite missing map? Deadline is Sunday 31st of July, enter via www.retrogamequiz.com/Here's the quiz, grab your compass and let's go! Direct link: i.imgur.com/c3y7vic.png

July Quiz - Clues #1This round has been running for a week, so far 35 people have demonstrated their map skills. Not bad, but I'm sure there are plenty more to come! However, almost no one has got the bonus question right yet, so I want to give something away here - I cheated a bit, this is not a computer game. Here come the first clues: 1) Game 1 shaped its genre so much, the term "Game 1 clone" was very common for years. 2) In Game 14, the first in a long series, you are exclusively in the water. 3) The first version of map #3 more or less founded an entire genre. 4) Four titles in this round have been released exclusively for Nintendo consoles. Deadline is Sunday 31st July, enter via www.retrogamequiz.com/Here's the quiz again, good luck: i.imgur.com/c3y7vic.png

Very...interesting pick for what is specifically chosen to represent the series in picture #1. Well, when was the last time you drew a map yourself in a video game? 3 months ago or so. It's always very fun to do IMO.

It's always very fun to do IMO. That particular entry hadn't been in the quiz before, but the others have been used plenty already. What was the map you drew? I just remembered another obscurity where I drew my own map... "Future Shock" on the Amiga. Maybe that should be in a riddle one day too.

What was the map you drew? Kirby & the Amazing Mirror of all games. Not strictly necessary to map that one out, but very handy for trying to get all the collectables.

July Quiz - Clues #2One more weekend and then the final sprint of this round begins - you have just under ten days left to join! Forty-five players are already in. There will be no more clues next Friday, just a reminder to the forgetful procrastinators among you. Here come the second clues: 1) The 15 is an automap in a game from a west RPG series. 2) Game 10 was not released until over 20 years after its completion. 3) In title 12 you use a hovercraft as one of the ways to move around the game. 4) Nothing is Commodore exclusive, but 8, 17, 19 & 20 are multiplatform games that were also released on C64 or Amiga. Deadline is Sunday 31st July, enter via www.retrogamequiz.com/. Here is the quiz again, good luck: i.imgur.com/c3y7vic.png

That makes me realise that even though I like the character and gameplay, I only ever played two Kirby games - Dream Land on the Game Boy and Canvas Curse on the DS. Definitely not a series where you'd expect a map to be helpful!
