hello everyone, I'd like to test your gaming knowledge, and have prepared a series of monthly riddles. I've been doing this for a while in various online communities (over 10 by now!), and would love to include hardcore gaming 101 if there is interest. The riddles can be about finding all games used in a fake screenshot: ...or about guessing the right games from 25 cutouts: comics pixel: i.imgur.com/y0oMnuI.pngquiz solution: i.imgur.com/xWWYLh7.png women protagonists: i.imgur.com/oe1Noj5.pngquiz solution: i.imgur.com/gixvF7E.pngrobots: i.imgur.com/KPVONcM.pngquiz solution: i.imgur.com/X4vsZWV.pngI'm confident there's lots of gaming geeks here that will score well on any of these. Feedback is welcome, the quiz for November has been running for a handful of days now - if no one shouts STOP I'm going to post it here in an hour!

November Quiz - SpaceshipsOkay, welcome to the monthly image quiz. We are off into space, with a wild mix of different spaceships across all years, genres and consoles! It is a tough one, though. Last months "comic pixel" quiz (see introduction post) featured easily recognisable comic book protagonists, but this time you'll need true hardcore gaming knowledge again... and of course some titles are as obscure as possible. However, I have faith that together you will solve all 25 games! Deadline is Wednesday, November 30th... so you got the entire rest of the month. Participation via www.nerdquiz.de/ ...no worries there's no ads or spam, behind the URL is just a google survey page. The text is in german, but it's easy to see what's supposed to go where. The Bonus Question is "what's the name of the ship from the title image?" Here is the quiz... good luck! Once a week there will be hints for the more difficult entries.

Hey everyone, before the quiz ends next week, here are some hints: 1) Another user posted this "cheat sheet" as a joke: orig03.deviantart.net/494a/f/2014/171/0/1/size_comparison___science_fiction_spaceships_by_dirkloechel-d6lfgdf.jpgBut upon giving it a closer look, 6 correct answers can be found on it! Three times there is even the actual spaceship from the quiz. 2) Every Column stands for a different category - they are in order from left to right: cockpit perspective, Sidescrolling shooters, movies&menus, 3rd person perspective, 70s/80s Retro 3) Entry number 4 is an exclusive title for the playstation 3. 4) Game 16 is about exploring mining facilities to detonate the main reactor. 5) Picture #19 is not Starfox - but has been tested by the angry videogame nerd once. At the moment only one user from this forum has participated - in total there are 30 participants so far. Maybe give it a try? www.nerdquiz.de

Hmm. Not familiar with all of these, but:
2: Darius (not sure which)? 5: Zaxxon 6: Wing Commander (not sure which)? 10: Galaga? 11: Star Wars Arcade? 24: Looks familiar from one of the site's books, but I'm drawing a blank.

2 is R-Type, 6 is definitely Wing Commander 1.
11 is TIE Fighter. (Or X-Wing if you're a traitor.)

Ah, my gut instinct on 2 was that it was R-Type, but for some reason I thought it looked like the ship in Darius Twin.

1 looks like No Man's Sky, but I think I'm being misled by the color choice 7 is Xenon 2: Megablast 8 is probably the Normandy SR-1 from Mass Effect 16 is Descent, or more specifically the ship shield display (very clever!) 23 is Whale's Voyage, a criminally underrated RPG
17, 20, and 24 look frustratingly familiar, but can't place it yet

Too bad it doesn't appear to be on Steam or GoG.

I played it on Amiga, which may be a slightly better choice in this case, but not too sure.

Are we supposed to discuss this?
3 looks like something out of Babylon 5 or Sins of a Solar Empire, but I cannot place it to anyh game. 12 is Axelay. 18 looks obviously like Battlestar Galactica, but the game may not be that (looks like there's text that's cropped away, and it does not look like the Galactica logo, though there is a Galactica PS2 game, at least.
Edit: A-ha, I knew I had seen 24 on the site. It's Buck Rogers: Planet of Zoom.

Whale's Voyage looks good. Too bad it doesn't appear to be on Steam or GoG. Whale's Voyage is good. It's a real hidden gem amongst classic PC RPGs. Apparently there's even a sequel, but I've never played that one... something to get around to in the future!
