November Quiz - last hints

So, final sprint for the space ship quiz - only three days to the deadline!

The "maniac" and "pcx" communities dominate the top positions, the two contestants from hardcore gaming 101 are currently neither top nor bottom - room to grow, guys!
Here is an artists rendering of what the first places currently look like:


No one has all points yet, even the top 5 all have several gaps (or mistakes). Everything is still possible!


Here some last hints, for the most difficult titles:

- game number 13 is only a few years old. What you can see is a cutscene - that ship is about to dock to a space station. Only two participants have guessed it correctly so far.


- number 9 is a multiplatform remake of a well known arcade classic. Just six people gave the right answer.


- ....and game number 22 is an exclusive title for the Commodore Amiga. A somewhat obscure entry, and only three of you got it right.

November-Quiz: Spaceships - solution & scoretable

Space, the final Frontier - the spaceship quiz is over. 42 Participants, so a smaller party than last time... but still a lot, and I'm happy for everyone who sent in their ideas. It was too difficult, I was told - I'll keep that in mind for next time.

I welcome the hardcore gaming 101 community, but with a raised eyebrow - this is not supposed to be a group effort! Maybe don't call out quiz answers until after the solution posting?

The rules for entries make sense, but it feels as though nobody is interested in the topic if people aren't tossing their guesses out. We'd have a thread with just the posts with your quiz and your updates on submissions to that point.

That was a hard one. Freaken Super Mario Land!!!!! Hadn't played it in ages. I feel like I remember some kind of shooting stages, like in a submarine, but that last plane seems to be just part of the ending? It was a good "trick" question.

I noticed there was a very first post with a mish mash of games? Did any one ever answer those?
The first screen looks like a mix of Dhalsim's stage in Street Fighter 2, and Mortal Kombat. The Pow gauge... is from Samurai Showdown? Fuma from World Heroes, and Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury. I can't place the names and the energy bars. The Special meter look familiar, but I can't place the game.

In the 2nd screen, It looks like a combination of Super Metroid with another game.... one of Krang's drones from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the arcade. The hero from Gunstar Heroes. Life bar from Megaman X. I have no clue where the stat bar, weapon select, remaining bombs, and that giant robot comes from.

The robot in the second picture is from Contra: Hard Corps and the status/health/weapon select bar in the upper section is from Alien Soldier.

I wonder where the candle holders in the first pictures come from? My first guess was the Japan stage from TMNT: Hyperstone Heist, but those candle holders look slightly different, I checked.

EDIT: A little guesswork and research: The candle/fire thingies are from Elfmania - a fighting game for the Amiga that I knew pictures and videos of, but never actually played it. I guess the pretty pixel art must have stuck with me:



EDIT 2: The nuke symbols in the first picture are from Super Turrican 2 (phew, that one was driving me crazy). And the huge ship in the upper part is from Cybernator/Assault Suit Valken. Now there is only the lonely rocket (looks oddly familiar) and the upper part of the background graphics (maybe a Mega Drive title?) left to solve. Any ideas?

Damn - I know way too much useless stuff..

Background graphics is from Cybernator as well,not sure about the rocket.

Good call on the background - it's just rotated by 90°, tricky .

And the rocket seems to be the missile-upgrade from Super Turrican 2 (again). But Factor 5 sometimes borrowed designs from other titles, so it might have been in another game originally.

However, I consider this one solved now. Did we miss anything, Mr_Horizon?
