www.hardcoregaming101.net/cdogs/cdogs.htmOne of the many titles that popped up on shareware compilation discs, this DOS shooter, also known as Cyberdogs, contains such simple joy as blasting stuff and collecting goofy stuff.

Huh, perfect timing! I just watched ADG's videos of these two titles. :p As an aside, I suspect the upcoming Streets of Rogue was inspired by C-Dogs and a Finnish game whose name escapes me.

I used to love those shareware compilation discs. I need to dig out some of my old ones. I used to really like playing Rats! (no relation to the GBC game), Winroids, and DXBall.

Such memories! I used to play this all the time and even had extensive plans for my own campaigns that I never actually got around to doing. If you don't want to fiddle with DOSBox there's a current open-source port called C-Dogs SDL that should be compatible with most modern OSs: cxong.github.io/cdogs-sdl/I used to love those shareware compilation discs. I need to dig out some of my old ones. I used to really like playing Rats! (no relation to the GBC game), Winroids, and DXBall. DX-Ball! My favorite BreakOut-clone. You're possibly referring to Tapan Kaikki (Which translates to "(I) Kill All")? From the article This needs some clarification; They're not randomly-generated, they're pre-generated, meaning the C-dogs editor creates a new one out of the requirements of your choosings, but its always the same level everytime you play it. The levels do change though if you mess with the random seed setting in the options. An interesting tidbit that the article doesn't mention is that all the sound effects we're taken from Gameteks Quarantine (the first-person taxi shooter). Same goes with the original Cyberdogs, which was made at 94 when Quarantine was released. SDL version replaces them with new effects.

Did the Error Free Productions guy(s?) ever make one past Bloodshed? I still have a copy of that lying around just because the download links quit working a while back...

You know, I can't remember now! I probably just got mixed up and thought there were more games than Bloodshed that did the pseudo 3D thing. Either that or I got it mixed up with a fan game I could have seen.

The Error Free Productions website is gone, but you can still get the TK games from a few Finnish sites. Here's a link for TK4 for anyone interested: zak.fi/Tapan_Kaikki_4:_Bloodshed/fi

The first version of the game I played back on ye-olde Sharware disc had no sound whatsoever, but when I played it again years later (DOSBox, maybe), the game sounded distinctly like the sound effects were ripped from either Wolfenstein3D or Doom.

The first version of the game I played back on ye-olde Sharware disc had no sound whatsoever, but when I played it again years later (DOSBox, maybe), the game sounded distinctly like the sound effects were ripped from either Wolfenstein3D or Doom. Some of the same sounds are also used in Doom, which leads me to believe Doom and Quarantine got them from the same "1000000+ sound effects" discs or whatever the source was. Watch any movie with a camel and I bet you'll hear a Doom imp. I'm glad so many people responded to the article, and if I'd known about the SDL one I totally would've mentioned it -- strange that it never came up when I was researching the game. It's crazy seeing a newer version of the game on the 'net! Maybe I should add a paragraph about it and pester the editor to update the article. EDIT: Done! Should be appearing in the article in the near future. Thanks for pointing out the SDL version, guys. I guess I shouldn't TOTALLY write off wikipedia as a source.
