The Mummy Demastered takes the word ‘Metroidvania’ one step furtherI think this game looks pretty neat. I haven't played Aliens: Infestation, but that game is referenced in this article, with regard to how both that and The Mummy Demastered throw a spin on the traditional concept of "lives" in a video game. In this game, if one of the agents you're controlling dies, they become undead, and you have to fight them (with the weapons they were using when you died as them) in order to retrieve your equipment. I think that sounds super cool.

Wonder how long this was in development for before it became clear the movie was a colossal bomb.

Considering how little the game seems to have to do with the movie I wouldn't be surprised if they'd just slapped the license on an existing project. Just change the title and a few assets. Seems kinda like a spiritual sequel to the Aliens DS game WayForward made.

Aliens: Infestation is really good, the only problem with it for me is it wasn't much of a Metroidvania, there's elements of that but it was more linear than I was expecting, still a great game though.
This looks cool too but it's a shame it's not a license as neat as Aliens.

I love how there’s a “Clocktower”! Looks like it’s going to be great.

I think that sounds super cool. That also happens in Let It Die on the PS4. Anyway I'm a WayForward fan in the "I should play more of their games" way, so... I will be keeping an eye on this.

I try to find connection between this and that Scorpion King GBA title they developed awhile back. But there's probably none. Thor: God of Thunder for DS looks neat too, but hardly anyone remembers that either.

It really looks like a game that wasn't a movie license, and I wonder how beneficial it can be to be associated with it. If anything, that "demastered" sounds like going counter to "rebooting" (what the movie was), and so like a little self-jab.

Aliens infestation was great at first, but if I remember correctly I quit cause I ran out of ammo at some point? It was a bit unusual for a metroidvania. Probably fixable but it kinda stressed me out in a resident evil kinda way. Not a fan of that, sadly.
EDIT: This new game looks really good!

This looks fantastic! Reminds me of another metroidvania game being made now called "Chasm". I can't wait to dive in.

Hey, that Scorpion King game looks cool and that is like, absolutely incredible given that there was a literal sea of garbage licenced games on the GBA. But that's Way Forward for you, they are kings of making licensed games that are better than you would expect.

It also happened in ZombiU from 5 years ago, so it's not even that original. However this game seems good and interesting enough, so I'm somewhat looking forward to it! I'm also happy that there's no Tom Cruise to be seen... However it also feels strange that the only element that links this game to the movie, Princess Ahmanet (the mummy, that is), doesn't look like Sofia Boutella all that much. So what's the point? Just kidding... or maybe not The sequence in the trailer of the dead soldier turned into a zombie looks very much inspired by Metal Slug 3's zombifying animations, I bet that's just one of the many nods towards classic games WayForward is going to put in this.

Is it a 'Metroidvania' or an action platformer with levels so bloated players will want a save system?
