Is it a 'Metroidvania' or an action platformer with levels so bloated players will want a save system? Look on the bottom-right corner of the screen during the trailer. That mapping system might as well have been lifted straight outta Super Metroid. This looks to be a proper Metroidvania to me. -Tom

Looks decent but where's Boris Karloff?

Looks decent but where's Boris Karloff? Or Brendan Fraser. In all seriousness a Metroidvania based on the classic Mummy or even the Brendan Fraser ones would be interesting than the Tom Cruise Mummy, but you take what you can get I guess.

So this is out as of yesterday. Anyone playing it? I'm thinking about picking it up but I'm not really a fan of WayForward so I'm a bit hesitant.

But I'm also playing like 4 different things right now. Nonetheless, I might have to pick this up sometime soon -- maybe this weekend! -Tom

It's cool looking, but man, every single scene change was like "oh, that's Super Metroid" or, "Oh, that's SOTN." This genre is already pretty derivative but hopefully this doesn't end up being super generic.

I'll take Super Symphony-of-the-Nightroid any day of the week, as long as it plays half as good as the games it's emulating. -Tom

I'm a fan of WayForward! But I'm also playing like 4 different things right now. Seriously. I have Etrian Odyssey V and Elex to get through and Super Mario Odyssey is out in like 2 days and I still have to go back to Tiny Barbarian DX now that the game is fully ocmplete and... I like Wayforward's games, but there have been too many good games coming out this year to play everything, and The Mummy is just going to have to wait.

I thought it came out in like 2012. I've got my eye on it. I feel like WayForward games are inoffensive but rarely great. Contra 4 is their best work by a country mile, IMO.

Most WayForward games are solid B’s with good graphics. And the occasional bouncing boobs.

Not a fan of the Shantae games? -Tom Well, here's a fan of a Shantae game : Pirate's Curse is excellent! The first two installments are too tedious and flawed for me. I've yet to try Half-Genie Hero, which looks somewhat promising.

Aww. See, I really like the original Shantae on GBC -- it's like Simon's Quest with all the flaws removed except for the screen being just a tad bit too zoomed in. But that's literally the only issue I have with it. Superb game otherwise.
