I searched around and didn't find much. Mostly half baked recommendations on other sites. Preferably on consoles pre PS2/Xbox/Cube or handhelds or even Android. I find these games highly addictive and just looking for more crack:
The Lost Vikings -Multi character switching(doesn't have to be all on-screen at once) -Puzzle platforming -Each character having their own unique powers/abilities
I really dug Thomas Was Alone, that was pretty slick. I hear there's a Transformers game on the DS that is similar? I seem to remember a Shrek game on the GBA that was like this, maybe I'm wrong.
Toki Tori -Puzzle platforming? -Collecting everything in a short stage? -Set abilities to let you figure the best route and forced restart if stuck? -I really have no idea how to describe this game!
Man I love this one. I bought it twice, once for the GBC and then the remake on 3ds. There were dozens of puzzle plats on the OG Gameboy, anything similar?
Warioware, Inc Mega Microgames -Microgame collection -Sense of style and weirdness -Story mode type progression
I still think the original is best. They got all gimmicky after the first game with gyroscopes, touching, and waggling. Even a DIY game? I think I remember a Sega game on the DS that was similar but I'm drawing blanks. There should be more games like this and Warioware needs to return to it's roots.

WarioWare is definitely awesome. It's not totally the same, but Undertale's combat system has some similarities with WarioWare's microgames. Undertale is technically a turn-based RPG, but with each turn that the enemy takes, you need to move your heart around onscreen to dodge their enemy attacks. It generally plays kinda like a series of pacifistic bullet-hell shmups (with each section lasting for a few seconds each), with different attack patterns to dodge depending on which enemies you're facing in battle, but some of the bosses will put twists on that, throwing entirely unique mechanics at the player during those sections. I won't guarantee you'll like it, but I do think there are some similarities between that and WarioWare.

The Lost Vikings-Multi character switching(doesn't have to be all on-screen at once) -Puzzle platforming -Each character having their own unique powers/abilities It's been a while since I played either one of The Lost Viking games, but I seem to recall Flashback, Blackthorne, and the two Prince of Persia titles from the 1980s and 1990s, and to a lesser degree Another World / Out of This World, had some similar gameplay elements. There's a few games on Steam that try to replicate the style and gameplay of these titles as well, with varying degrees of success. I don't think you'll find much with multi-character switching though...

I haven't played The Lost Vikings but it sounds similar to some parts of the first few Mario & Luigi games. There are puzzles where you control the brothers separately and each one has special abilities and stuff.

The Lost Vikings-Multi character switching(doesn't have to be all on-screen at once) -Puzzle platforming -Each character having their own unique powers/abilities Kyatto Ninden Teyandee for the Famicom (NES) should do the trick, don't take it for granted tho. There's Crystal Cave Classic and Escape Goat 1&2. Both similar in concept.

I should also add Sweet Home for games that allow swapping between different characters with different abilities.

Lost Vikings is one of those games that I'm surprised hasn't seen some sort of revival(outside of their cameos in multiple Blizzard games). Cool concept, great music and funny dialogue. It needs more love!

Give Trine 1&2 a try as that has gameplay elements akin to The Lost Vikings. It's on PC, Xbox and PlayStation.
There's Oddworld/Skullmonkeys/Heart of Darkness(psx) which may also be what your looking for.

The Lost Vikings-Multi character switching(doesn't have to be all on-screen at once) -Puzzle platforming -Each character having their own unique powers/abilities Trine 1+2, Fury of the Furries/Pac-In-Time, Gobliiins series (P&C adventures based on this concept), The Cave (by Ron Gilbert), King Arthur's World, The Humans, Tower of Babel (abstract 3D environments, but the basic idea is the same)

Some good puzzle platformers: Hamelin no Violin Tamaki/Hameln no Violin Hiki (SNES, 1995) Donkey Kong (GB, 1994) Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee (PS1/PC, 1997) Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus (PS1/PC, 1998) Fire 'n Ice/Solomon's Key 2 (NES, 1992) Popils/Magical Puzzle Popils (GG, 1992) Catrap (GB, 1990) Kula World/Roll Away (PS1, 1998) Sutte Hakkun (SNES, 1998) Ecco: The Tides of Time (MD/MCD, 1994) - Swimming but you do a lot of jumping and bouncing around Fury of the Furries (AMI/PC, 1993) Pocahontas (MD, 1996) Moai Kun (NES, 1990) Bubba 'N Stix (MD/AMI, 1993) - Easier on MD Puggsy (MD/MCD, 1993) Fishbane (PC)
For WW style, maybe try the Puzzle & Action games for MD/GEN.

If you liked Toki Tori, I'd suggest getting into a Lode Runner game. The Sierra/Presage-developed The Legend Returns is a very good take on the formula.

Never played Tiki Tori, but try the Game Boy Advance Klonoa games. They are platformers designed to solving puzzles and you have to collect stuff to open the exit.
Warioware examples, definitely Rhythm Heaven/Rhythm Tengoku. It's a sibling series with the same quirkiness and rapid fire approach. Feel the Magic XY/XX is the Sega example you are thinking of. Quite fun, I remember it can ruin your touchscreen however. Bishi Bashi series. I wish I played them. They are multiplayer-oriented.

Yeah, Rhythm Tengoku is an incredible series. I'm a big WarioWare fan but I slightly prefer RT. Check out Rhythm Heaven Megamix, which is basically Rhythm Tengoku Greatest Hits. Since you prefer the original WarioWare, OP, you should know that all the RT games on Megamix are controlled with the face buttons.
