With JRPGs, I enjoy built-in detailed bestiaries.

Personally, I prefer just the option to set the text speed to 'full text box at once'. Every game since Actraiser 1 makes me cringe when it doesn't have this. Please, don't make me hit the A button twice as much just because I read faster than the default text speed That one's important too!

Ever-scrolling fastforwardable text is okay, too, if the higher speed is really high enough. I'm a pretty quick reader, and it's probably easier on the controllers to just hold down the button.

Enemy infighting. Always fun to goad your enemies into fighting among themselves, whether it's multiple hostile enemy factions or just a couple of demons flinging fireballs at each other.

Japan is only in 10th place according to some World Population figures, with China and India being in front, of course. Imagine how many hearts get broken with every new release in those countries

Imagine how many hearts get broken with every new release in those countries I'll bet! China alone is the one country where every major business in the world wants market-share. K-pop stars will issue formal apologies on behalf of their label, to retain that relationship for sales. It's a plus-side for the game industry, 'cause then we can import the "Asia" version of games where the text and subtitles will be offered in Chinese and English.

I’m a sucker for games that allow me to climb ladders from any angle and lets me jump off at any point. Something really satisfying about that.

I suddenly had a memory of playing Doom. And getting the minion monsters attempt to fight back against the Spider Mastermind. That was fun to watch.

Games that heavily encourage and reward you for using dodges in melee combat - stuff like Monster Hunter or Dark Souls, where one of the essential skills is making timely dodge rolls, or Killer Is Dead, where a successful dodge opens a window for a powerful sword combo.
