I'm not sure what the policy is here--I thought of posting this in my topic in Article Discussion, but this isn't about HG101's articles, so... ummm.... ummm.... Anyway, This: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bddT36mliiMCan someone translate (or at least give the gist of what's being said) in the cinematics? I was kinda captivated, especially when what reminded me of TerraVenture from Power Rangers Lost Galaxy showed up (sooo many jokes I could make) and then... Dobkeratops speaks. I know he probably just said "you have no chance to survive make your time and don't bother shooting my tummy its totally not my weak point" but I wanna know for sure. (And.... the R9 Arrowhead requires TWO pilots? Gee, thanks for making me feel even worse for sucking at these games, Irem)

This is not the TG16 R-Type, this is the TG CD R-Type. No one is going to translate all the cutscenes, buy you can see a translation of the endings here (hover mouse over images): www.vgmuseum.com/end/td/a/rtypecd.htm

I have the R-Types compilation for PS1, and oh god.
I also have R-Type DX for the GBC, which is the only thing I've beaten R-Type 1 on.
Other than that the only R-Type I can legit beat is Final... on Baby and Kids mode (I play those more to test out new ships than anything tho). I've heard you can unlock the ship from X-Multiply, which I hope is true (and that they're not just talking about the Cerberus from R-Type Delta, which is only similar with one specific powerup but then not precisely the same).
EDIT: Incidentally, after that last level in Final... I don't think I want any more insight into the Bydo psychology. Seriously I think even Starcraft's Zerg would say "dude, you guys are messed up."

I don't understand the love for R-type Final. There's maybe two good stages and the rest are really poor except for the battleship stage which would be amazing if it didn't run at literally 5 fps. Then there's the fact that you have to play through the first stage everytime you play the game and it must be the worst opening stage for any shooter. I was so disappointed coming from the awesome R-Type Delta.

It may be because I only ever got to that stage on the easier difficulties (Baby and Kids) but yeah, I've seriously never seen the game slow down.
You'd think if it was gonna slow down anywhere it would be in the last level with all those sea urchin things.

So, ummm....
I beat R-Type I and II on the Gameboy Color collection "R-Type DX."
Wasn't sure if I should put this here or in article discussion, but something the article doesn't mention is that the GBC version has hit detection issues--especially the version of R-Type II, where I often had problems with bullets going right THRU the powerup carrier things.
Also it seems to add a mechanic in that a number of things can outright block bullets, including other bullets--both yours and the enemy's. When I got to RTII's stage four boss, I legit thought some bullets were turning invisible due to pixel limits and thought it turned the boss into entirely luck. I don't think that's what was happening though, but it still seemed like there was a lot of RNG in that bttle--so much so I had to kick the difficulty down to Easy (I was on Hard). Literally all this does is reduce the amount of HP enemies have.
Ironically, the RTII final boss is RNG in the arcade version but you can be consistent with him on the GBC.
Another oddity is that RT1 makes you loop it for the "real" ending but RTII does not.
It's beatable, but I wouldn't call it a good port.
