So, this is a thing that has been happening. I've never played a Senran Kagura game, but my understanding is that each game has what's called an "Intimacy Mode", which involves creeping on the girls in it or something, lol. It's not my thing, but it has been a feature in previous games (including previous entries on PS4)... yet the upcoming Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal is going to have that mode be censored. As noted by the publisher, XSEED - This is reportedly due to a change in policy on Sony's part, as this tweet states - A Eurogamer article about this new apparent policyBecause of this, some people have been curious as to why exactly Sony would object to it now, when they hadn't in the past... which led to this perplexing tweet from Ask Playstation UK - Uhh... that's a really bizarre thing to say, lol. So... yeah. This is a thing.

What is going on with Sony since Vita hot they have been doing stupid things in general. It's like there trying to ignore Japanese Developed games and just want to be known for Western ones which is the big reason why Xbox is not like in japan.
Japanese games are the only reason to buy a Sony System if they start censoring them everyone one will just move them over to switch or Microsoft if they keep this up. I mean NekoPara the censored version is too Edgy for Current Sony yet there fine with stuff like Last of Us 2.

Oddly enough there have been a lot of unexpected developments like this lately on various platforms, but in the other direction: Steam is now apparently allowing fully uncensored h games, a PS2 Taisen Hot Gimmick (Psikyo's strip mahjong series) that was ported to the Switch in Japan was localized, and now Sony is changing its stance on this. I wonder what's caused the change for Sony, especially given that the mode is a series tradition. Senran Kagura is quite popular as far as fan service games go. I wonder if this change in policy would affect something like DOA Xtreme Volleyball.
Edit: I just read that Sony UK tweet. What the heck? Are they implying the mode was removed because it was the same in every game, not because of its sexual nature...?
Yeah, it definitely seems like they don't actually know what people are talking about.

This is stupid and what is beyond stupid is I've noticed some people CELEBRATING this decision, like what the fuck? This is a thing people do now?
If you don't care about the game that's fine, but there's no logical reason to celebrate the censoring, that's something motivated purely by spite.

Clearly the person handling the Ask Playstation UK Twitter doesn't actually know why the mode is being removed. That's the only context in which that answer makes sense.

Yeah, that tweet definitely gave off the impression that it was written by someone who has no actual idea what the game is, what this mode is, or why this happened, but tried in vain to make a tweet disregarding the issue.

What on Earth is going on at Sony that it took them THIS long to realize it was a problem, enough that the game needed to be delayed? Same with Omega Labyrinth - the game was already localized and then it was canceled, one would think that would've been more of an issue before all of that work was completed.
I almost understand why this was done, but without any official comment from Sony, it leaves everyone else to fill in the gaps. If you want to come out against sexual harassment - which this SEEMS to be - then do it.

Agreed; I remember Sony also turned down that Super Seducer game shortly before it would have been approved (or released? I forget), which is understandable. The fact this seems to be a recurring pattern with them not informing the developers/publishers earlier on though, to the point where their games end up being delayed or outright canceled so close to when they would have released, just makes Sony seem erratic and disorganized. Especially so when you consider that they haven't made a public announcement about this, and clearly did not inform the person handling that Twitter account about what was up.

It is very odd that Nintendo and Sony have basically switched places in this regard. I mean SK Reflexions above and beyond that mode and a Switch exclusive!

Should see if the Pinball game shows up in English uncensored too. The series never had to be censored before, just age information, so seeing this game censored now is baffling.

Censorship sucks, there's no defending it if you ask me.
Game developers should be free to make whatever kind of game they want and gamers should be free to play whatever game they want, if a game isn't your personal cup of tea that's fine but don't try to keep it out of the hands of others, that's a dickmove.
If you think censoring something like Senran Kagura is ok, what's your defense for why Grand Theft Auto shouldn't haven't been banned back in the day? You can beat hookers to death, was Jack Thompson right all along about "murder simulators"? If you think removing sexual content is fair game I'm not seeing the argument for cherry picking sexual content over violence, why shouldn't Doom be way toned down? Sony's own God of War 3 featured both graphic violence and sexual content, where was the outrage then? And like I said, were old Joe Lieberman and Jack Thompson right about Mortal Kombat and Grand Theft Auto all along?
The Senran Kagura mode in question is one where you inappropriately touch the girls with Mickey Mouse hands, ooooooooh, so edgy, I'm sure we'll see a spate of real life sexual harassment in the wake of the game's release because video games cause real life behavior, which is why everyone who has played Grand Theft Auto then proceeded to go out in real life and start jacking cars and shooting people and kids in the early 90s just kept ripping each other's spines out because of Mortal Kombat. (and you don't want to even KNOW the injuries kids would suffer in the old days because of The Three Stooges)
Heck, I know when I played Grand Theft Auto V back in August I can't tell you the number real life of cars I jacked and people I shot due to the game taking me over a month to beat, I also find whenever I play Super Mario Bros I can't help but start eating strange mushrooms I find on the ground and trying to force my way into sewer pipes.
I can't IMAGINE the shenanigans I would get into if I was overcome by the sheer, ape like lust by the sight of seeing Mickey Mouse hands groping anime girls if I played uncut Senran Kagura on my Sony Playstation 4 console, oh please Sony! Keep me and everyone else save from this sick filth! However, I can't WAIT to start macheting dudes in the neck in Last of Us Part 2! Better get to work sharpening my real life machete!

God of War did get criticized for the sexual content, though. It's not like it was a controversy free game.

God of War did get criticized for the sexual content, though. It's not like it was a controversy free game. I don't remember any criticism of God of War 1-3 for their sexual content, I could be wrong, but it wasn't a big controversy at least (at least not compared to something like Hot Coffee) But I just don't understand these debates we have over content nowadays, this is shit we figured out a literal decade ago and we've only gone backwards since. Vote with your dollar, if you don't like something don't play it, nobody has the right to dictate to others what they can and can't play, it's literally as simple as that, I hate the idea of a corporation like Sony feeling like they can choose what I, an adult, can and can't play, I actually don't care much about Senran Kagura itself, but that's a really bad precedent, although as it's been pointed out Sony has always leaned this way. For what it's worth it's equally stupid when people get upset over content from a right wing angle, like the Battletech pronouns controversy or the controversy over LGBT content like in Last of Us Part II (why is that a controversy to begin with?) Basically there's an attitude going around in general of people who want every game that comes out to reflect what they personally would approve of, that's not that works at all.
