You're spot on about NSMB. It's like all the ingredients are there but it's just dull.

I'd say Last of Us is slightly over rated. The game play isn't anything special. And the story while good is the video game equivalent of Oscar bait. And the whole they aren't zombies argument is rubbish. It's good but it's hardly Silent Hill 2 or Tactics Ogre. Also found the celebrated surgery scene plain bad game design rather than genius. All you can do is what the developer wants and I found Spec Ops did similar scenes but better. I enjoyed it but it's no where near best game ever material. I played it with one of my housemates. When the main character entered the first courtyard (?) full of hip-high obstacles, it was so obvious that this would be a room where a shoot-out would take place, it almost hurt. Nothing has ever snapped my immersion that quickly. It felt like a Gears of War parody. |
