I've always been a bit of a late adopter to new game systems. When I was younger, it was due to not being able to afford a new system at full price. Nowadays it's reluctance to invest time and money into something new before it's built up a reputable library. There's exceptions though - I bought a Switch on day one.
Anyway, one of the benefits to this is I've always been able to enjoy late era stuff where the developers really have a good handle on the hardware. It got me thinking - what would you consider the last "great" game is on every system? Let's keep it to commercially released stuff, so no homebrews or anything.
For example:
Kirby's Adventure on the NES is a really tremendous game and really outshined stuff 16-bit systems. Likewise, Kirby Super Star on the SNES is probably my favorite game in that series. Kirby in general has a habit of showing up late in a system's life.

From what i've heard or played, Forza Horizon 2 and Rise of the Tomb Raider were pretty great on X360.
Likewise, Bayonetta 2 and Zelda: Breath of the Wild on Wii U.

NES - Mega Man 6 and Star Tropics II both came out 10 months after Kirby's Adventure, March '94, so I'd say one of those. I definitely have a greater fondness for Kirby, but they're both great games.
SNES - Easy, Star Fox 2 😜 Really though, Kirby's Dream Land 3 which was one of the last SNES games (fourth to last according to Wikipedia).
N64 - Paper Mario is easily the last "classic" on N64, but I'd say Conker's Bad Fur Day is the last great one.
Gamecube - Twilight Princess, no contest.
Wii - This is a little tricky considering it's still technically seeing releases though mainly only the Just Dance games. Whether the newer ones are "great" is open to interpretation depending on personal taste although there's nothing wrong with the actual mechanics for a rhythm game. The last "new" great game is probably Skyward Sword since NA got Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story and Pandora's Tower late. Of those three, XBC is a classic and Last Story is a near classic. Pandora's Tower I'm a little iffy on but I feel like it's good enough to say it's great. There's also Kirby's Dream Collection which is excellent as it includes the first 6 main games, a lot of historical information and three episodes of the show! So I'd say it's either SS, PT or KDC
Wii U - This still gets new releases though mainly downloadable games. For now, I'd say Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment is the last great game although that'll be unseated by King of Cards unless it turns out to be garbage. For the last exclusive, I'd say Paper Mario: Color Splash which isn't to everyone's taste though. Maybe Tokyo Mirage Sessions which was a little earlier and more people like it, but I personally found it to be kinda boring.
Game Boy - Pokémon Red/Blue for GB only releases but Yellow is the last actual GB compatible game though it's more associated with the Color.
Game Boy Color - Shantae although Pokémon Crystal for a game people actually played.
Game Boy Advance - FFVI, Yddra Union or Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team depending if a remake is okay, multiplatform release or exclusives only. Maybe Summon Night: Swordcraft Story 2 which came out after PMD, but I haven't played although it did receive good reviews.
DS - Kirby Mass Attack or Aliens: Infestation

DS - Pokémon Black 2 and White 2. Don't think anything significant came out after those. N64 - Animal Crossing. Mario Party 3, if you consider Animal Crossing more a GCN titles for us westerners. Wii - Probably Skyward Sword. There were some other big titles in 2011 but I think that's the one released the last. GBA - I'd imagine Rhythm Tengoku but I don't know how good that one is compared to its sequel. Other than that MOTHER 3 of course. GBC - Oracles of Ages/Seasons GCN - Twlight Princess (wow, Zelda often releases late in a console's life) I wonder if we can already call Etrian Odyssey Nexus the last great 3DS title (not counting remakes and ports). The two biggest upcoming releases for it are both remakes/ports (M&L: Bowser's Inside Story and Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn, both great games). Likewise, Kirby Super Star on the SNES is probably my favorite game in that series. Kirby in general has a habit of showing up late in a system's life. The SNES still got a good amount of notable titles after Super Star. One of which is another Kirby game (Dream Land 3), which is one of the most impressive on the system, graphically and sound-wise. Also, DKC3, two Fire Emblem games (neither of which I've played so I can't vow for them being great or not, but they're highly regarded), Harvest Moon, Tetris Attack and Rockman & Forte. Fire Emblem 776 is the last of those and probably the last SNES title you can regard as great. From what i've heard or played, Forza Horizon 2 and Rise of the Tomb Raider were pretty great on X360. Likewise, Bayonetta 2 and Zelda: Breath of the Wild on Wii U. I think you have your dates mixed up quite a bit. Bayonetta came out closer to the Wii U's launch than to its demise. Hell, arguably its two biggest titles weren't even out (Smash for Wii U and Splatoon). Captain Toad, Xenoblade X, Rainbow Curse, Yoshi's Wooly World and Super Mario Maker all came after Bayonetta 2 as well. The last great one, though, is Paper Mario: Color Splash (not counting the multiplatform Breath of the Wild, of course).

Speaking personally...I like KSS wayyy more than KDL3. KDL3 is a fine game but it doesn't really approach "great" for me whereas Super Star is this really bonkers overstuffed toybox of a game. Likewise, DKC3, Harvest Moon etc are all really good...but don't quite hit that "classic" status with me.
Genesis - Phantasy Star IV maybe? I know some people will go to bat for Sonic 3D Blast or Vectorman but...no thanks.

There's still Yo-Kai Watch 3 in the US a few days after EO Nexus but it's out in a few days in Europe.
Also, "great" isn't the same as "classic". I think of great as being recommendable but not necessary an all time classic.

I wasn't really going by anyone's personal preferences, just by what would be generally regarded as great games. I love Kirby Super Star as well (though I think Dream Land 3 is probably better) but there were definitely a few big titles after it. Certainly Tetris Attack and Harvest Moon are titles that belong in the same category as Super Star at the least.

SNES/Super Famicom - Metal Warriors and Front Mission:Gun Hazard. Playstation 1 was already out, but think Metal Warriors and Front Mission:Gun Hazard came out in like, 1995 and 1996. Similar type of action gameplay. Control a mech, but you can ditch it and move around and explore as your human self. Bahamut Lagoon and Tales of Phantasia, as a pet-raising strategy and RPG go. Both have a nice, vibrant, flowing brilliance. Tales of Phantasia was particularly ambitious, stuff with 48 megs of gaming, music, shouts, and a theme song.

What about Fire Emblem: Thracia 776, which had its retail release in 2000(!).

What about Fire Emblem: Thracia 776, which had its retail release in 2000(!). Man, talk about a late late release! What's the story there? That could've been something to beef up Nintendo 64's game library. But I can see that there's a much larger user-base to market to, as far as Super Famicom owners go.

That could've been something to beef up Nintendo 64's game library. But I can see that there's a much larger user-base to market to, as far as Super Famicom owners go. It was originally a game for the Japanese Nintendo Power service which used a special flash ROM cartridge. Most of the games were previously available, but there were a few exclusives like Thracia 776 that later got cartridge releases. Thracia is the very last SFC game releases on a cart, but not the last NP game although it was mainly picross (if you've played Picross DS, this is where the NP volumes 1-8 are from) and a remake of Metal Slader Glory. It's actually pretty rare though. It was popular enough to justify the "physical" release, but it was still an SFC game in early 2000 (the NP release was late 1999).

What about Fire Emblem: Thracia 776, which had its retail release in 2000(!). OMG I need to play that. This isn't as late as 1999/2000, but Rockman & Forte (Mega Man & Bass) came out on the Super Famicom in 1998, and is a pretty decent Mega Man game all around.
