Tomb Raider: Chronicles (Windows, first playthrough) - 6 hours, 8 minutes - 2/5
I've played the TR series since I was a child and I've finished all of the other games multiple times but for whatever reason I never actually finished this one. I can kinda see why now.
More of the same from the previous games but with less pleasing level design and challenge plus a much shorter length. This might be more of a good thing depending on how you felt about the previous games but some of the levels are so simplistic/fast. I did kinda like the third block of levels in terms of atmosphere and aesthetics. It's too bad they never really expanded on or tried that again in any of the following entries.
There were glitches all over the place in this one. Ones involving the game becoming unbeatable if you save in the wrong spot in the last level (in more than one spot to top things off) are a mess and really harm the overall enjoyment.
Not sure I'll ever return for this one.

JoeQ, I thought you of all people would've played all Soulsborne games. Also, is Bloodborne really that long? Jeez...

Haha, I'd been saving Bloodborne. I've also never played Demon's Souls, hoping for that PS4 remake.
My playthroughs in these games are always long, because I spend a ton of time exploring, playing multiplayer and doing all the extra stuff for trophies/achievements. In actuality BB is probably the shortest Soulsborne game, even with the DLC. You can waste endless hours in the Chalice Dungeons, but I'd advice against it. They're very tedious and completely break the balance and power curve for the main game.

Sorry to nitpick again, but it was 112h+ for Bloodborne, not 118h+.
Also, you're not counting your own stats?

I can put them in the monthly list (which I need to update anyway due to that error), but I'll still leave it out of the main list.

Cool stat updates!
Strider 2, Playstation 1 (replay, approx. 1 hour and 45 minutes)
2.5D platforming style really suits Strider. I'm a sucker for 2-D sprites over a camera shifting 3-D environment. I remember playing through the first time and just wondering why they chose to name it Strider 2. A lot of the enemies and characters, and even just certain stage design elements made it feel more like a remake or a reimagining of Strider 1; the cut scenes and ending sequence reveal otherwise. The ability to play as Strider Hien is a welcome bonus. The game is challenging enough, without being too brutal. Reasonable length for an arcade game, a bit on the short side for a home console release. Music works, but the composition isn't quite as catchy or memorable as Strider 1.
Subjective score: 7/10
Megaman 2, Playstation 4 (replay, approx. 50 minutes)
I don't think much else needs to be said about Megaman 2. Just another yearly replay. This game is my emotional favorite. Favorite soundtrack. I have childhood memories of avoiding family trips to Phuket, because I just wanted to stay at home in Bangkok to play this. I don't know what constitutes a "perfect" game, but for me, this is one I can keep coming back to and still be thoroughly entertained. Especially when I have been playing this game for 30 years.
Subjective score: 10/10.

Resident Evil 2 (2019) (PS4, first playthrough) - 11 hours, 12 minutes - 6/10 Played through Claire and Leon's campaign which is the equivalent of what I considered beating the original game. Thankfully an improvement after I was less than enthused with RE7 but it still could've been better. Still trying to process my feelings overall but here's some pros/cons. Pros: Aesthetically amazing Map/level design **GAMEPLAY ELEMENT SPOILER** Little gameplay elements like boarding up windows add strategy/depth The game expanding outwards and including some extra locations new to this remake Cons: Every single enemy feels like an ordeal. They dish out and can take heavy damage while dodging can be a disaster in and of itself most of the time. (I can see the appeal of this but it was annoying and not scary or otherwise enjoyable for me) **CHARACTER/STORY SPOILER** The bits where you play as Ada and Sherry were both less than stellar Ink Ribbons/limited saves being locked behind Hardcore difficulty (While on that matter, Standard and Assisted feel like they could have a difficulty between them since they're miles apart) **LOCATION SPOILER** The sewers are dragged out on and on Was a bit broad in my use of spoiler tags but I wanted to play it safe.

I'm back from my Ski vacation, and what is a ski vacation without some après-ski gaming?
On the flight over, I finished Night in the Woods (Switch), which was fairly charming. I liked the characters, plot and dialog, but wandering around the town (and especially the dream sequences) was a bit tedious. I'd probably rate it somewhere around a 7. Play time is "5 hours or more"
The main game I ended up playing was Moonlighter (Switch). It was quite fun, with some great music that got stuck in my head more than once. Then I bought the soundtrack, so I can get it stuck more often. Pacing is a little strange; the forest dungeon took by far the most time, followed by the Desert Dungeon (mostly because I wasn't getting a key upgrade item). The tech dungeon, in contrast, I finished on my 3-hour return flight, then finished the game itself later in the evening. I'd probably rate this somewhere between a 7 and 8. Play time stats not available yet show "15 hours or more".
On a side note, is the parental control stuff still the only way to get playtime from the Switch? I miss the 3DS-style logbook. Nevermind, I looked it up. For anyone who doesn't know, select your user icon on the main page to see your profile.

Have now beaten Clockwork Knight on Sega Saturn. It's a pretty decent early platformer for the system held back by two major flaws: the first being the controls are too loose for my liking and the second the fact it's literally only half-a-game. There are 8 stages total and they can be all beaten in 1 hour once you know the patterns for the bosses. Still, it's aged remarkably well for an early Saturn title (this ain't no Daytona USA-level disaster).

Reigns (Switch, Replay) I originally got the iOS version and played to a bad ending (which I'll get to later). Reigns is set up as a simple kingdom management game, but it's really isn't. You do have 4 meters corresponding to the Church, Populace, Military and Treasury which need to be kept from falling to zero and hitting the maximum. Getting any meter to either has the reign end which also doesn't matter all that much. Every year, a member of your court presents an event and you have a choice of two options. Some deviate from that, but 90% are those simple questions. Reigns is really an obtuse adventure game where you need to (early spoiler) break a curse placed on your bloodline by the Devil. This element first shows up in the year 666 (the game starts at 500). You get some very obscure hints and light prodding on how to do this, but it's very difficult to actually know what to do without a walkthrough which is why I got one of two bad endings the first time. You get one shot at the good ending (maybe two if you already know what to do). If you don't, you get a bad ending depending on what exactly you do afterward. I'd say the single biggest issue is that one of the actions you need to do isn't hinted anywhere. The second issue is that all events are random so you're at the mercy of the RNG for important events. I only had two opportunities for one of the critical ones and it would have been completely possible to have locked myself out of the good ending if I hadn't lucked into doing the "right" thing the first time I played it (plus I did use walkthrough anyway). The sequel is a little better about this since I think it continues indefinitely until you get to the ending. I technically haven't "finished" it because of that though. Specific to the Switch version is a really weird bug where the game doesn't actually end when it's supposed to. I got the good ending, but continued on instead of going to the credits. Just to see what would happen, I selected the choice that lead to my original bad ending (which did lead to the credits) and it still kept going even though it should have totally ended at that point. Rating: 7
