I've got a couple of minutes to kill, so I thought I'd do a thread about a game that's been on my mind for a bit. Say what you will about Regular Show, but it had a clear love for 80 and 90s culture that went beyond mentioning popular things, and this was especially the case when it came to appreciating the more obscure parts of old-school gaming. So it's always been kinda weird to me that it only ever got one traditional video game on consoles or handhelds, when Adventure Time got a whole bunch of games (I think they even made one last year).
Regular Show: Mordecai and Rigby in 8-bit Land was a retro-styled 2D platformer made for the 3DS by WayForward, who tend to do a pretty good job at making old-school throwbacks and licensed games. It had Mordecai and Rigby getting sucked into a games console, where they had to swap between gameplay styles like a side-scrolling shooter and a top-down Smash TV-style shooter in order to get to the end of the level. It's a pretty okay game, but it suffers from some unusually sloppy controls and hit detection, as well as level design that's mostly uninspired. At least the soundtrack is pretty excellent, which makes sense considering it's a chiptune soundtrack by Jake Kaufman.
I've been playing through the game lately, and something I discovered is that it's been delisted from the eShop for some time. The game was released both physically and digitally, so you can still acquire the game legally, but the fact that it's now become a bit harder to find outside of emulation has made me want to cover the game for the website in some capacity. That won't be for a while, since I've got other things I need to do for the site, but I thought I'd ask y'all what you think of this game. I'm curious to know more about the general consensus (I'll probably need to read contemporary reviews as well to get some other thoughts in too, so feel free to link any reviews that have interesting points to make).
