That weird arcade with the chimp that spits bullets. I can confirm that the game was quite popular in Europe, I could find the coin-op almost everywhere in its heyday. And well, also for the fact that French people liked it so much that they wanted to remake it... too bad that the idea started with those losers at Golgoth Studio, maybe we wouldn't have had to wait 10 years for it and maybe even got a pseudo-sequel or inspired title?
I can see that it was one of the few times where the US/Euro covers were much better than the terrible Japanese ones, seriously what were they thinking by putting the final boss right there in the arcade flyer?

Fun fact: The Golgoth guys, at least the main artist Phillipe Dessoly, also worked on the Amiga/ST ports of the original, so there was a personal connection there. He also made Mr Nutz and the hidden Game Boy gem Jurassic Park 2: The Chaos Continues. So the term loser would only apply to his business skills. I'm also rather fond of the more deliberately paced Mega Drive game, repetitive music aside. The canyon segment in particular still looks pretty impressive with its parallax layers and pseudo-transparent waterfalls.

Maybe I just suck at Toki but it always seemed incredibly hard to me. I'd have probably played it to the end regardless (at least the arcade version) if it moved a little faster, since it reminds me of the original Shinobi in some ways.

Make no mistake, Toki is difficult after the first couple levels, several enemies appear suddenly and leave the player with little reaction time, plus there are the segments like the vines in the jungle and the cart sequence right before the final boss that need quite sharp reflexes. I'm displeased with them mostly because they touted projects that were never made, for example the Joe & Mac remake; and the only game they released, the new Magical Drop for Steam in 2012, was released unfinished and even after they removed the bugs they never released the patch that would have added the promised improvements and new game modes. As I bought the game at the time, rest assured I wasn't happy about it

Fair enough, Magical Drop 2012 doesn't seem to have a good reputation. So your dissapointment is understandable.
