I noticed mostly with Playstation brand games and now 360 that alot of games are getting an "asian" version.
I have a few Asia games and they seem to be just the Japanese version sometimes coming with an English language instruction sheet and for the most part is cheaper than the Japanese version.
Are there other differences between Asia or Japan version games or are they basically the exact same game in slightly different packaging?

I'm just quoting PlayAsia on this since I haven't tested it myself but for the 360 it seems several of the *Asia* branded games are able to run on any 360 (region free). Where as the Japanese copies are listed as being unable.

I think some asian released games also have some sort of english translation, like Strider 2.

When it comes to PS2 games, they're just Japanese games with a slightly different cover (usually just different copyright info), and come with a poster featuring instructions in Chinese and English. PSOne games are the same.
360 games are different, as noted above, I believe they're American games with slightly different packaging, and are usually region free.

Reason I ask is I was wondering if Japanese saves are interchangeable with Asian saves on PSP. Since I'm Japanese Illiterate I can't unlock anything so I have to Download saves for Japanese heavy games.

Someone on the Neo-Geo forums was talking about collecting Korean versions of carts. Some had altered graphics and sounds.

I'm pretty sure PSP saves are compatible between the Japanese and Asian versions of games, yes, though I can't say with 100% certainty that this is indeed the case. (And it may also vary from game to game...)

Samurai Shodown is Fighter Swords and has several voice overs removed as well as the names of several characters changed. Haohmaru is Kim Dae Hoon and so on.
