Note that I've played through the MSX2 version; I haven't played the Famicom one yet, which is supposedly better than the original. Is it?
What an awesome game this was. Now I see why MSX fans love this game so much.
The atmosphere in this game is also amazing, too. I felt it was a nice little touch to have the music go faster and faster the more you attack a boss. Creepy and effective.
I also like that you control two players at your own choice, and you level up one of them. Both of my players got equal treatment in my playthrough.
My only gripe is that I don't like that you have to buy the shields in order of power, and that you can't just skip to the Golden one.
But other than that, I had so much fun with this game. I eventually got an understanding of what to do as my playthrough progressed further on.

Only tried the NES game briefly but found it worse in every regard pretty much. Yeah this game is really something for 1987.

I also forgot to mention how awesome the UMBRELLA password is for killing all Bats on screen. The equivalent to Zelda's microphone controller on Pols Voices.
