I spent a few months on this series, which is about halfway released now, and it was a blast to do, even if I did have to take a short break due to burn out from some of DOOM II's nastier surprises early on. Feel free to discuss!
For some background details, these articles went through a lot more editing than usual, but for good reason. There were significant gaps between each piece as I played and researched a game before writing and submitting a piece, and sometimes worked on other projects when I needed a short break from all the ripping and tearing. I also went with too comedic a tone when talking about a lot of background stuff and had unnecessary tangents related to weird facts about the various developers (amazingly this did not include American McGee going full Bob Baker about how great China is, because I only found this out recently). The articles most changed were DOOM (1993), where we shaved down some details on the game's development, cutting some scuttlebutt that came out recently about why American McGee was fired from Id in 3 (see Sandy Petersen's video on Why Is Quake Like That for more details).
There should be a DOOM 4 article after the RPG games that I managed to make with the help of a friend from twitter, who's been going through some tough times lately and I figured I could ask you to donate to help her with her housing situation.
She's a big DOOM fan and started doing research into the cancelled DOOM 4, contacting people involved and managing to make a huge collection of images, video, and all sorts of stuff I used bits of for the article, along with piecing together some details on what the game was supposed to be about and how it helped form what would become DOOM (2016). Everything in that piece was stuff I could publicly share, there was some stuff wrapped up in legal stuff.
I also rewrote my Eternal article a bit to make sure I wasn't too jokey or mean because I liked the game a lot, but boy...they made some narrative decisions.
