I've never liked Zombies Ate My Neighbors. It's too quantity over quality. Maybe it gets better later on, but I get way too bored to ever make it that far. The general gameplay is also way too simplistic. It feels like something that would have been a free Flash game five to ten years later. Probably with more gore, but that might have actually improved it in this case.

spanky - You should be honoured! windfisch - Afraid I can't take any credit for the introductions. It's a copy and paste job of the English language back of the box nowadays. As long as it looks good though - I'm happy with the current layout for now. dsparil - I need a game selection from you please. Edit - Thanks ommadawnyawn2 - I need a selection from you also please. Anyone else can select a game for a future topic - you don't need to post about ZAMN in order to do so in case there was any confusion.

ZAMN eh. I've tried playing this game a few times and wanted to like it as it's pretty creative and has a nice audiovisual aesthetic. Couldn't get that far though, it's kinda BS how people can get killed on the other side of walls and then you get a harder and harder game in later levels as a result.
Without dodging or strafing, and not much in the way of puzzles (?) it is kinda simplistic but that's not always bad in itself.
C for now

I'm very tempted to pick Rap Jam Vol. 1, an awful basketball game I played a whole lot of as a kid. Instead, I will go with Mr. Nutz which is somehow not the only squirrel based platformer on the system.

As long as it looks good though - I'm happy with the current layout for now. And there I was assuming "Kiss your Axelay goodbye." to be an ironic bad pun. But it’s the real deal, wow! I still appreciate you using those as introductions. Since we haven’t talked about cinematic platformers yet, I’d suggest The Edgelord of Persia aka Blackthorne.
Zombies ate my Neighbours
I love its aesthetics, somewhat reminiscent of Lucas Arts’ own Day of the Tentacle, with ZAMN even featuring purple tentacle-foes. But it gets pretty frustrating early on, starting with those chainsaw guys. I kind of wish the assets were part of a less hectic, more atmospheric game. Rating: C Street Fighter II on the SNES is a huge one for me. Remember, I never owned the system, but you could play it at stores, waiting in line to get a chance to finally beat *that* kid in versus mode. One time I got to play it all by myself at a smaller electronics store while my dad was buying groceries at a supermarket nearby. I steadily made it to the M. Bison. That cheap bastard would knock me down again and again, while I tried all kinds of characters. The AI really cheats. Meanwhile my father had arrived, telling me to come with him. But my urge to finish the game was stronger. Frustrated my dad left to wait in the car. When I had finally beaten Bison, it was a bittersweet victory: I had avenged Chun Li’s father, but at the same time wronged my own. Sorry dad! At the time this would’ve been an easy S for me. But unlike other genres, fighting games hadn’t quite peaked yet. Following SF iterations brought better balancing and smoother animation to the table. Inputs would feel more direct and precise, resulting in more dramatic matches. So I’ll have to go with a B.

Here's a couple of suggestions then: Pilotwings, if only because I've never really given it a proper play session. Legend of the Mystical Ninja/Ganbare Goemon: YKE (SNES, 1991) because it's a solid game and it's been a long time since I played it. The sequels are even better.

If it's that easy to persuade windfisch to grade a certain way, I say give Mega Man X an F or else I'll never say anything good about Link's Awakening ever again! As for Zombies Ate my Neighbors. I've emulated it here and there, but there always came a point where I got a bit too annoyed with it. I'd like to give it a shot some time on actual hardware just because I do think it's kind of neat and just a fun idea conceptually, but I doubt it'll ever become a favorite of mine. I could probably rate it, but I'll refrain since I never got that far into it and haven't played it in like a decade. For a pick, since I expect we'll probably get through the major 1st party titles at some point, games like aLttP, DKC, Metroid, Tetris Attack are a bit boring to pick, so I'll go for something that's not really an iconic title for the system, but hopefully still something a lot of people have played. That's right, it's Rockman & Forte. It probably won't get in the A rank like MMX, because this world knows no justice, but I'm curious how it'll do.

It's not like excelsior got exactly what he wished for (remember, he's anti-Axelay). I would do spiteful rankings only to games I don't like or don't feel strongly about. Problem is, I'm rather fond of MMX*. So how about we meet in the middle and give a double-F to Final Fantasy IV (a game I never played)?
*Rockman & Forte is kinda cool, too. Though wouldn't we have to do Rockman 7 first, according to the the sequel-rule?

Nice and simple pattern memorisation game that builds up the difficulty at a steady pace. The gameplay feels a little streamlined compared to the NES version putting more focus on perfecting sequences. The standout feature here is absolutely the visuals which may just be the most attractive on the SNES. The large sprites, vibrant colours and simple yet exaggerated animations really bring the roster of opponents to life whilst also highlighting tells wonderfully.

It sure packs quite a punch. The reward for being perfect is nice, too. S.

I've been working on the new design for the front page grid which can now be seen in the opening post displaying the rankings. Unfortunately, I did mess up the numbers which aren't as clear to read as they need to be, but I'll revisit them in the coming weeks. For now though there is a clear ranking order and it will be easier for me to update going forward.

I beat this game recently and wrote about it in the GFC thread so I'll keep it short here. This is one of my favorite SNES games and a real "desert island game" for me. It looks great, with giant well animated boxer sprites, but the punches, especially the super punches have a real impact to them. I love the brief pause whenever you get a knockdown. I love touches like the fast movement, the dizzy animations and the unique animations for snuffing an attack with perfect timing.
I also argue it's one of the best multiplayer games on the system. There's 8 save files and a "fastest times" leaderboard for each boxer that compiles the times from all the save files. The time trial mode is very easy to use and it's QUICK - if you make a mistake you can start over again with very little delay. It's quite a bit of fun playing this game with friends and trying to beat each other's times. The Wii Punch Out has a similar mode but you have to reload the fight each time you restart. It kind of bogs things down.
It was recently discovered that there is a legitimate 2 player mode that can be accessed with a secret code! From what I understand it's very broken but what a cool idea. I'm honestly shocked it took nearly 30 years for people to find it. Other trivia: Charles Martinet does all the voices in the game.
This is an S tier game for me.

It'd give SPO an A. It's a well made game with nice graphics, but I'm not super into boxing so that's a barrier the game can't quite overcome. My main memory of it is actually from playing it on a Virgin Atlantic flight to London which was also the last time I've travelled internationally. I don't know if Virgin Atlantic is still as good as it was back then, but that was a great experience even in economy. I think I'm even giving the game a little bump because of that.

[/quote] Well, first of all, those aren't my rules. Nobody can stop me from picking Super Bomberman 5. And secondly. What are you talking about! This is clearly a spin-off, not a sequel! After all, it doesn't have a number in the title, and Capcom never rereleases it, so it can't possibly be a main title.
