I am looking for games with timing based gameplay elements. What I mean is things like the timed attacks in Mario RPG, or the move executing method in Fire Pro, or whatever. Any good ones that are not obvious?

Well pretty much all the combos in fighting games are timing based, if you press the button too early or too late the combo doesn't connect.

I'll state the obvious: any music rhythm game.
As for anything else, how about to a lesser extent, Shenmue's QTEs?

if you Count QTE then you need to count Dragon's lair, Space ace, time gal, Road avenger , Etc. too

If you really want examples of rhythm games: Guitar Hero, Singstar, Dance Dance Revolution, Space Channel 5 and basically any game that'd be a hit at parties.

Legend of Dragoon has the timing thing. I also think mother 3 has something similar.

Megaman Battle Network relies a bit on timing.

counting QTE like stuff, you'll likely have a ball with 'Indigo Prophecy' ('Fahrenheit' in Europe ).
Concerning Timing, You should also check out the 'Shadow Hearts' RPGs.

Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit has some really fun QTE-style scenes where you have to hit the two sticks in the right direction at the right time.
[edit] Exalt to Dartagnan for beating me to it.

For timing in a traditional RPG, Grandia does an excellent job of using timing as a strategy.

If you want a challenge, try Tobal#1 & 2, and Ergheiz: God Bless the Ring. Playing Ergheiz with an experienced player is one of the coolest things I've ever done in a game. There's something truly majestic about watching Tifa and Koji break out of numerous grabs and throws in succession. Also, the "Just-Frame" attacks in Erhgeiz (and Tobal#2) require precision timing, and more power to the one who pulls off these moves.

Couldn't you say that all games besides traditional turn-based RPG's are timing based?
