Now let us morn the loss of the Karma system. No longer will we be able to smite people in secret, never giving them a chance to defend themselves. No longer will we be able to allocate points for obscure hardcoreness. Karma system, you will be missed by few...

It sounds like Ebaums worldforums Karma system. Man that seriously sucked. Basically, it allowed a select elite to provoke their minions to give you endless bad Karma. So complete assholes are in charge in other words.

Basically it worked like this: you had an option to smite or exalt any other member in the forums. Exalting gave you a Karma point, smiting took away a Karma point. The whole system was rather pointless because Karma didn't mean anything other than how much people liked you or disliked you. You could deal out or take away Karma once an hour. You didn't loose any credibility or functions or anything if you had low or negative Karma, you just had low or negative Karma. Honestly, I always thought it just caused unneeded animosity because you never knew who was smiting or exalting you. There was no way to tell who was dealing out Karma unless they specifically told you. Some people, like mazinsaga, actually had a perpetual secret smiter for what looks like no reason other than to piss him off so he had negative Karma for doing nothing wrong.

I didn't really catch on to the thing until after I'd been here a while, but you said it, Vyse - totally worthless. As constructed, it was flawed in that the same person could smite/exalt you multiple times for the same topic (or for no reason, as you said in the example of mazinsaga), and you'd get bad reps just because of that. On the other hand, it wouldn't be any better if you knew who smited you, since all that would do would be to build animosity within the group.
Good riddance, I say. You don't need some gauge to tell who's a good guy/bad guy.

From what MP83 told me, the same thing happened over at the Ancient Land of Ys forums. When it gets to a point where it actually bothered people, it was worth getting rid of.

I guess my personal Karma wasn't good enough for me to care.

I don't miss the Karma system one bit. It was just another one of those useless e-penis meters.

Bah, I should have exalted someone into the high 100s. Or smite someone until he reaches -2 147 483 649, so that it loops around to... a huge positive number, probably.

Karma meant as little here as it does on GameFAQS. It's not like if you had more, your word took precedence over others.

Well, I guess we can just resort to the, "I'm a Gawd and UR not, LAwLsz!1" deal.
So yeah. I'm a God. Lolz.

Yeah...now it's just post counts.... I like the gameFAQs one more then the normal kind just because a high one means you've been active over a large space of time.
