Not necessarily, since they include the date you've signed up. I've been on GameFAQs as forum member for over 4 years. I know 1-3 year people with a great deal more karma than me due to karma bonuses and me just not going to the site. I've never suffered a karma loss either. I should be an Icon, Idol, or Ancient by now.

That's more or less my point, at least with that system if you fall off the site for months on end and make no contributions then you won't *progress* as it were, not that it means anything since regardless of how many fictional points we all have we're still capable of being useless and/or jerks.

You don't have to make contributions though. All you have to do is be logged in, and MAYBE check you're account information. It's funny to hear how many people on GF still say things like "karma post" when you don't have to really say or do anything at all. I do believe that their system logs you out eventually though, but you can go for long periods of time being logged in and not truly being active. But you're right kal, it's pretty pointless anyway.
Lol at fictional points and useless jerks ;D

I thought you got a karma point a day so long as you have an active message posted? Like, I have a few posted in one of those sticky topics, which are never deleted, which counts as an active message.

I've always though you had to post a message during a day cycle to get a karma point for that day..mind it's been like 4 or 5 years since I read the actually Karma gain system. In any event I'm certain it doesn't accumulate mearly by being signed in or so I've assumed.

I wish more boards would do away with such systems. There's a board out there with "Instant Ratings" (from 0.00 to 10.00), which basically allowed you to set auto-ignore thresholds for anyone with a rating below a certain number, but mods and high-postcount, high-profile posters would get rated 8.50-10.00 by nearly everyone, and lesser known people would only get rated when they said something that someone else disagreed with, leaving them perpetually rated below 4.00, meaning nobody on the board would take them seriously, and be more likely to rate them low, themselves....

^Wow, I've never heard such a lame forum idea. I wouldn't even bother going there.
Anyway, here's what I found about GFs karma system:

They should remove such lame systems.
Seriously.. what's the point of a message board? To post messages. That's it. Not to level up. I actually enjoyed old-fashioned boards, where you didn't even have to sign up.

I'm definitely not going to miss the karma system, and this is coming from a dude with 22 karma when it left off and never had any negatives. These are forums where people talk about games and such. They're not bloody popularity contests.
Granted, I could use exalts to exhibit my gratitude when a forum member does something cool, but that was the only use I found for the system. Though, shouting out "THANK YOU SO MUCH" and adding in about five big smileys would do the job just as well. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
