No, it's not that strong women, it's that it's a reversal of roles, it's been done a million times and it all ends up in the same "girls r kewl" message. If they wanted to portray women as strong and grrr i m steaming mad they wouldn't pull a role reversal because it's been played out countless times. It's the same thing in modern television, the man is usually always portrayed as sarcastic, bumbling and helpless idiots and/or fools
It's why it's so hard for men to get into a relationship with a woman. Because woman can be excruciatingly picky because they have all these men pandering to them because of this false sense of "women are elusive creatures" mentality they have, which in turn gives the women a "high and mighty" mentality which makes them picky.

What, so us women aren't allowed to do things guys do? That makes me physically ill to read. I see myself as a knight and what a guy would normally be but I can't because it's cliche or something? Also I have no idea what television you're watching but I've never thought of either gender as what you've portrayed here. Everyone has equal chance to be something but you say no because you seen it too much?
I don't have this 'picky' or 'elusive' crap going on. I know that's not good for -anyone- to be. Gee, thanks for stereotyping me to hell. I appreciate that. I'll be getting back to the kitchen now. /sarcasm

No complaints about every single other pop culture story where you have overpowered men and helpless women?
Seriously though you say that the reverse roles is over done how about the almost infinitively more exploited standard rolls?
You just don't feel comfortable with a female hero. I know for a fact you enjoy shows that use stereotypes way more overdone then the one you just mentioned.

I feel perfectly comfortable with a female hero, take for instance the Resident Evil movies (and a few of the games), who portray both sexes as acting positively in a tough situation. I also dont happen to like the character in most anime that have standard roles (The jerk lead character, the calm and cool but strong assisting party) Infact, I really don't even enjoy anime unless the main character is a badguy, or a soulless robot.
Putting down someone as a Misogynist is a bad way to cop out of an argument or evade putting down an actual point whatsoever, because practically anything a man says to a woman can be taken as misogyny.
itt: if someone elses opinion makes you physically sick you dont bleong on the internet

Speaking of sexual roles, I find it funny how just about every sit com, american or not, portrays a dumb fat man with misogynistic tendencies who married an attractive and smart yet vain woman.
Just a thought.

I just don't know why you complain about one overplayed concept while not complaining one that's even more overplayed.

I will definately be checking out Claymore, as respectable women are far too uncommon in any kind of fiction.

Uh.. Resident Evil was pretty tasteless in its presentation of women. Jill and Alice couldn't do a damn thing without being sexy while doing it. Claymore presents women in a way I've never seen them before in an anime; beings with virtually no sex appeal that simply have a job to do. The men aren't bumbling idiots either. They're just in a different league. I think you need to revisit Claymore and actually WATCH it this time. Revolver, how are the Gundam Seed Destiny: Special Editions I-IV? Haven't seen them yet. I'm currently in the process of rewatching the entire Gundam metaverse in chronological order so I can review it. I assume they're pretty much just condensed and consolidated versions of the TV series, much like the SEED Special Editions were. Only since there are 4 GSD specials instead of 3, GSD specials will probably be less edited. I hear they focus a lot more on Athrun than Shinn and co. Indeed. The women in Claymore are just great. I put them on about the same level as The Boss from MGS3, which I have to say is probably the coolest female character I've ever seen. By the way, Funimation just licensed Claymore in the US.

All I can say is that after the first 26-or-so episodes the storyline got into a huge mess. I've read all of the manga and seen all of the anime except for the movie. I feel that the anime jumps the shark at Greed's death. The manga still goes on pretty strong at volume 13. I appreciate the anime, but as good as it is, the manga is still better. Greed's death (and resurrection) is a stronger story, the main bad guy and the mystery behind him is stranger, the Portal of Truth is so much more bizarre, the Flame Alchemist is a much stronger character, and Wrath (called Pride in the anime) is an incredibly badass, sword-wielding character.

Claymore presents women as both feminine and masculine, but without the positive qualities of either.

Now now revolverocelot, I have to disagree on one point. I think the Claymores are dead sexy. Clare, Galatea, Flora. Gorgeous. ;D
But seriously, thanks for the backup.
