I found a rom, found the patch, used two different patchers then two different roms and played several times and patched serveral different times. I'm using no cash GBA emulator and virtual boy. When I get to the first cave a trail of black tiles is blocking my path: In the japanese version this path is clear, these are not supposed to be here. I know how to patch, but it is not working correctly after this point.

i see you also posted on romhacking, which is probably your best bet, if a little slow going for the reply. while you're waiting i'd suggest maybe grabbing the snestool utility and toying with the header(add one, try to repair what, if anything, is there, or delete one) of the japanese rom(make a copy and keep a backup of the untouched file) and seeing if that does anything when you patch it. you get no better results try looking for yet another copy of the rom. you never know when you got a bad dump, and rom sites don't either. you may also need a specific version of the rom for the patch to work, though usually the readme file will bring that up, and this ones doesn't.
just noticed it was "virtual boy" you said. try visual boy advance

Nocash and Virtual Boy Advance are the two worst emulators to play GBA games. Try Visual Boy Advance (VBA). If the path is still blocked make sure you disable any cheats if you are using them. Disable them BEFORE loading the game. Save state loading and then disabling them won't work.
If all else fails, then take the unpatched Japanese version, load your battery, pass that point, save your game and load it on the translated version.

Tried a play-through on all 3 emulators, the roms/patch is borked.
I have about 4 different copies of the Caravan hearts rom and tried applying a patch to each of them using BOTH ninja patcher and lunar IPS.
I wish I could find a post-patched clean rom for download.
I'm not using cheats, I only use cheats to go hacking through the rom after a 100% finished play-through :/
I have posted on 3 forums (including this one), it seems no one has had this problem!?

Like I said, take the unpatched Japanese version, load your battery, pass that point, save your game and load it on the translated version.
