Is there anyone here who has dealt with foreign Region 0 DVDs? If so, on a regular DVD player, does the movie freeze up for a few seconds every twenty or-so minutes? Just asking to make sure that my import copy of Drunken Master II isn't defective... the DVD itself looks good, but it does freeze up every now and then. But when I rewind, the part that glitched works fine. If this is to be expected of most Region 0 DVD's, then I guess it's a small price to pay.

It might just be the DVD - isn't Region 0 supposed to be "region-free" (works in all players, regardless of their origin)? If that's the case, then I'm positive that it's only the disc, because I've played around with a Region 0 disc (strongbad_email.exe volume 4) without any problems.

I have a region 2 DVD player and haven't had any troubles with region 0 DVDs. So, it's either you DVD that's flawed or your DVD player doesn't play all the discs right (some cheaper(?) models can be like that sometimes).

I've got a combination VCR/DVD player... but if I've got a faulty DVD, then I might just be a bit pissed off.

Some dvd plays will only play DVDs for it's region so if you have a region 1 dvd player it might not play all region dvds. But it sounds more like the DVD is crappy. I'd try it in someone else's dvd player and see.

I'd try it in someone else's dvd player and see. Ms. Brand, I already tried your suggestion. How so? I forgot something; the PS2 can also be used as a DVD player! Plumb forgot about that... before I got my own, I used to play them on the PS2. So, I popped DM2 into the PS2, watched DM2 for twenty minutes straight (still one of the greatest movies of all time, I had difficulty tearing myself away from it), and no errors whatsoever! This has proved that the DVD works fine, and that the DVD/VCR I have cannot accurately handle some foreign DVDs. Case closed! It may have only been about sixteen dollars, but glad to know it's not wasted! This thread can get locked now. Thanks all! ;D

It's probably not the region encoding that's causing a problem, actually - if it was, it wouldn't even start up. Some DVD players just happen to have problems with the way certain DVDs are encoded, or maybe their laser is a bit fussier.
